Job Description:

Consultation and Diagnosis:

  • Conduct thorough clinical behavioural assessments and consultations, including medical evaluations.
  • Identify underlying causes of behavioural issues, such as medical conditions, environmental factors, or learned behaviours.

Treatment:

  • Develop individualized behaviour modification plans and treatment protocols.
  • When appropriate and diagnosed, prescribe and manage medications to support behaviour therapy.
  • Educate pet owners on implementing necessary intervention to address behavioural challenges.

Client & Stakeholders Communication:

Partner with Primary Care Physician (PCP), certified animal trainers, and animal care professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

  • Provide clear communication and training to pet owners about behaviour management techniques.
  • Deliver ongoing support and follow-up to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.

Education and Training:

  • Train, veterinary behaviourist residents and other veterinary staff on behavioural issues, safe handling techniques, and early intervention strategies.
  • When available, to organize workshops, seminars, or webinars for clients.
  • Stay updated on the latest research in animal behaviour and veterinary science.

Record Keeping and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical and behavioural records for all cases.

Desired skills and experience:

Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree.

  • Specialization: Board certification from the American College of Veterinary Behaviourists (ACVB) or European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine or equivalent credential.
  • Experience: Prior experience in veterinary behaviour consulting, or related roles.
