Job Description: (Oncology/ Hematology)

  • Provide care to oncology patients in various treatment stages, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and palliative care.
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, and other cancer treatments as prescribed by the oncologist.
  • Monitor patients for adverse effects of cancer treatments, such as nausea, vomiting, pain, and fatigue.
  • Assist in procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, dressing changes, and central venous access device management.
  • Assess and manage side effects of cancer treatments, including pain, nausea, and fatigue, in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Educate patients on symptom management strategies and self-care during treatment.
  • Offer emotional support to patients and families dealing with the physical and emotional effects of cancer.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding cancer diagnosis, treatment options, expected side effects, and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Offer support to patients experiencing emotional distress related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provide information on the importance of nutrition, exercise, and psychosocial support during treatment.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, radiologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to plan and deliver patient care.
  • Assist with the coordination of diagnostic tests, imaging, lab work, and consultations.
  • Participate in case discussions and care planning in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date patient records, including treatment administration, progress notes, and any changes in condition.
  • Ensure proper documentation of patient interactions, treatment responses, and any adverse events in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Review and document chemotherapy administration according to institutional protocols.
  • Ensure proper infection control measures are adhered to when handling chemotherapy agents and other hazardous materials.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and protocols for patient safety, including preventing medication errors, ensuring the correct patient identification, and managing hazardous drug exposure.
  • Provide palliative care and symptom relief for terminally ill cancer patients.
  • Support patients and families through end-of-life care, offering compassionate communication and guidance.
  • Facilitate discussions on advanced care planning and provide support during the decision-making process.
  • Keep up-to-date with developments in oncology care and nursing practices by attending relevant training, conferences, and workshops.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the oncology department to enhance patient outcomes.
