Position Summary
The Nestle Purina Petcare R&D Singapore team is a part of a global Petcare R&D network with existing footprints in North America, Europe, and Asia. Our purpose is to create richer lives for pets and people who love them. Our mission is to discover, develop, deploy and industrialize pet food innovations in the global markets. The Petcare R&D Singapore team will be co-located with Nestle Purina Petcare AOA business office, and provide direct support to the commercial, technical and operational partners.
As a Senior Scientist, you will be part of the cross functional team in an international environment; particularly in developing food solutions to enhance eating experiences for pet enjoyment and deeper connections with pet owners. Your main responsibilities will be to lead the R&D activities to develop and industrialize innovations developed by the global R&D network, to produce in manufacturing locations in AOA, and ensuring competitive advantage in Nestle Purina Petcare products and technologies.
A day in the life of…
- Plan, organize and perform the necessary trials and experiments (bench-top, pilot plant, and factory scale) as required to deliver the process and product development projects that meet the requirements of the client companies and GSBU and are delivered in a timely manner
- Provide product/process expertise and assistance within the Center and externally (e.g., with Marketing, Manufacturing, Divisional Engineering, Technical Applications, other R&D centers, vendors, etc) as required on a wide variety of projects
- Function as a project team leader as assigned. Required activities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing effective project leadership for the projects assigned
- Fulfilling all requirements of the Product Development Process and I2L regarding deliverables for each phase
- Complete all required documentation and project reporting in a timely manner
- Adherence to Company policy on protection of patent rights and intellectual property
- Ensuring all appropriate documents and project records are filed in the Central Project Files, whether paper or electronic
- Participate and contribute as a member of a cross-functional team. Actively drive product and process conceptualization, development and scale-up. Interface on a project implementation team by assisting with hand-off from development to start-up and providing operational training as required.
- Provide “technical” training as required to operating company personnel
- Effectively communicate results through oral presentations and timely, written technical documentation and reports
- Conduct all activity in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all required Company policies and procedures
- Align with other Purina R&D sites and Zone Application Groups as needed.
- Practice safety in the work area. Engage in and execute the safety practices of the organization.
- Proven ability and willingness to mentor and guide the less experienced technical staff
- Develop Nestle Purina’s core competence in all areas of product development
- Possess a recognized expertise and keep current in technical disciplines
- Propose projects utilizing technical innovations that may be applicable to Nestlé Purina business strategy
- Understanding the needs of the markets and operations, generating new innovative product and process ideas
- Continue development of project leadership skills. Engage in networking with key stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with vendors and counterparts at other Nestlé operations by encouraging frequent informal communication
- Training of personnel from regional business units and within the R&D Network as required
- Travel as necessary
- Additional duties as assigned
What will make you successful
- B.S. in Science or Engineering, MSc or PHD Food Science, Animal Science, Engineering, Nutrition preferred
- A minimum of 5 years’ R&D experience, preferably in food or pet food category
- Project Management experience in competitive and complex environment
- Must be able to manage multiple projects/priorities
- Excellent product development skills including strong ingredient knowledge and a solid understanding of nutrition and unit processes
- Good consumer understanding and stays abreast of consumer and competitor trends, experience with customer tests
- Manufacturing quality, process and lean manufacturing principles
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills, ability to influence and drive business decisions
- Proven ability to create original, differentiating technology and apply technical knowledge to meet business needs
