Brimstone is currently hiring a UI/UX Artist for our upcoming indie city builder game. We are a remote international team spread throughout Europe, Asia and Australia.

We work in smaller teams where everyone has a lot of input. Beyond the specific skills needed for each role, we also expect the following:

  • Genuine Care - You have a strong curiosity for games as a medium
  • Creative & Ambitious - You want to take creative risks developing new, original games
  • Ownership - You are self-motivated and take on a lot of responsibility
  • Generalist - You contribute well in any area of your role and learn quickly. Strong bonus if your skillset covers more than one discipline

About The Project

Overthrown is an online co-op fantasy city builder where you play as a super strong monarch who can lift anything, and use the strength of your magical crown to solve problems for your citizens:

  • Throw trees at the sawmill for planks
  • Throw live creatures at the butchery for meat
  • Place monster nests near bandit camps to have them fight each other for your amusement (and free loot!)

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll work together with our director/designer to improve and refine the overall user experience and create all the art assets needed for the UI.

While we’re fully expecting the programmers to handle all implementation, it’s a huge bonus if you’re able to do any of it yourself!

The current UI is completely placeholder, meaning you’ll have a lot of freedom to make it what you want it to be!

Skills & Experience

  • You have experience making UI art on a shipped title we can try
  • You are skilled at making illustrations, concepts, and 2D animations
  • You play a wide variety of games, including other sandbox/system-driven titles (city builders, management/colony sims, factory automation, strategy, survival/crafting, etc.)
  • Any actual game design interest/experience is a huge bonus!
  • You have a strong creative voice and can push for what you want. You place high standards on both your own work and the work of your team
  • We of course have lots of inspiration, ideas, and overall design direction to discuss, but it's necessary that you do solid research and think carefully about the player experience and what would fit best!
