Responsibilities:

Project Initiation and Planning

  • Work with stakeholders to define the project’s objectives, deliverables, and key success factors.
  • Create a formal document outlining project goals, scope, stakeholders, and initial resources.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to develop a comprehensive budget, covering all aspects of design, construction, and equipment.
  • Develop a detailed project plan outlining tasks, timelines, resource allocation, and milestones.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.

2. Design Phase Oversight

  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and other design professionals to ensure that the data center design meets requirements.
  • Oversee the review and approval process for architectural, electrical, cooling, and network designs.
  • Ensure that designs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.

3. Procurement and Contract Management

  • Assist in selecting contractors, suppliers, and vendors for construction and equipment.
  • Oversee the negotiation and finalization of contracts, ensuring clear terms and conditions.
  • Ensure timely procurement of materials and equipment, managing lead times and logistics.

4. Construction Management

  • Monitor construction progress, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of various trades and subcontractors.
  • Implement quality control processes to ensure that construction meets design specifications and industry standards.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and best practices on-site.

5. System Integration and Testing

  • Oversee the installation of power, cooling, network, and other critical systems.
  • Ensure that all systems undergo rigorous testing to verify functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Resolve any issues or discrepancies identified during testing.

6. Project Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor project progress against the project plan, adjusting schedules and resources as necessary.
  • Keep track of project expenses and ensure adherence to the budget.
  • Regularly update stakeholders on project status, including progress reports, budget status, and risk management.

7. Commissioning and Handover

  • Manage the commissioning process to ensure that all systems are fully operational and meet design specifications.
  • Perform final inspections and ensure that any punch-list items are resolved.
  • Ensure that operational staff are trained and that all project documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Facilitate the handover of the data center to the operational team, ensuring a smooth transition.

8. Post-Completion Support

  • Provide support during the initial operational phase to address any issues or concerns.
  • Conduct a post-project review to evaluate project performance, document lessons learned, and identify areas for improvement.

9. Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Keep detailed records of project plans, designs, contracts, testing results, and other critical documents.

Skills and Qualifications Needed

  • Proven experience in managing complex construction projects, preferably data centers.
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure, including power systems, cooling, and network technologies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with stakeholders, contractors, and team members.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
