Veterinary Assistant
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dermatology Veterinary Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role involves working closely with our dermatology specialist to provide high-quality care to animals with a variety of skin conditions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary nursing and a particular interest in dermatology, helping to diagnose, treat, and manage skin disorders in pets.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with Dermatology Consultations: Support veterinary dermatologists during consultations, providing information to pet owners and assisting with diagnostic procedures such as skin scrapings, biopsies, and cytology.
Patient Care: Administer treatments, medications, and dermatological therapies as prescribed by the veterinarian, including oral, topical, and injectable medications.
Diagnostic Support: Help prepare and process skin samples for laboratory testing, interpret results, and provide follow-up care to patients.
Client Education: Educate pet owners on the management of dermatological conditions, including at-home care routines, diet recommendations, and follow-up procedures.
Assist with Surgical Procedures: Provide assistance during dermatological surgeries such as biopsies, growth removals, or reconstructive surgeries. Monitor anesthesia and recovery of patients as needed.
Maintain Medical Records: Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of patient history, treatment plans, and progress notes are maintained in the clinic’s database.
Equipment Maintenance and Sterilization: Maintain dermatology-specific equipment, ensuring that all tools are cleaned, sterilized, and functioning properly.
Continuing Education: Keep up to date with the latest developments in veterinary dermatology, attending training sessions, workshops, and courses as required.
Qualifications:
Experience in Veterinary Nursing: At least 2 years of nursing experience, with small animal handling skills
Experience in Dermatology: Prior experience in a dermatology or specialist veterinary setting is a plus.
Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and specialists, providing clear instructions and support to pet owners.
Attention to Detail: Ability to observe and assess patients carefully and to follow treatment plans accurately.
Team Player: Must work well in a collaborative, fast-paced, and often high-pressure environment.
