Purpose of Job:
You are responsible for driving operational food safety and food security data analytics efforts, in support of SFA’s mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food. You are also responsible for producing tactical, operational and strategic intelligence reports, and policy assessments and recommendations that facilitate decision making to enable the management or mitigation of food safety and food security risks.
Duties:
- Drive the development of data analytics use cases, from identification of appropriate data sources to development of processes and data extraction models.
- Conduct scans to identify & categorise information from relevant data sources into trends & topics of interest.
- Collaborate with teams to ensure comprehensive data collection, aligned with organisational mission & goals.
- Develop and maintain data acquisition processes, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Design, implement and maintain efficient pipelines and workflows for seamless data flow.
- Conduct regular audits and maintenance to ensure the reliability of data pipelines.
- Clean, filter & format collected data, in preparation for downstream analysis.
- Perform data wrangling and transformation to prepare raw data into analysis-ready formats.
- Implement data quality checks and validation procedures during cleaning and transformation processes.
- Apply statistical/ analytical methods to extract insights from data. Utilise data visualisation tools to communicate findings effectively.
- Pursue and investigate leads, integrate disparate pieces of information, and derive a composite picture of the existing or potential areas of concern to food safety and food security.
- Monitor local and foreign developments that may have a direct or indirect relevance to an area of concern related to food safety and food security.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather intelligence on emerging issues and provide actionable insights.
- Produce assessments reports based on analytical findings for policy and decision makers on areas of concern related to food safety and food security.
- Develop policy options for decision makers based on assessments of the area of concern related to food safety and food security, understanding of how policy and administrative measures can be used to neutralize or mitigate concerns.
- Monitor and provide regular implementation progress and key milestones updates to various stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience in data analytics work/roles demonstrating a good understanding of information sources available, ability to identify, organize, integrate, and evaluate information and reduce complex data into basic constituent parts for clarity and impact, ability to probe and investigate information and observations, and ability to identify patterns and discontinuities from seemingly random set of events.
- Proven experience in data analysis, interpretation and visualisation.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Synapse etc.) and visualisation platforms (tableau, PowerBI, Qlik).
- Experience in deploying data engineering pipelines, ETL tools, data cleaning, transformation & data wrangling.
- Strong written and communication skills to write well-reasoned and well-articulated arguments, proposals, recommendations and reports that demonstrate a good understanding of issues.
- Highly self-motivated, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Meticulous, detail-oriented and able to work independently.
