Introduction:
The Regional Logistics Manager (Logistics Engineer) designs and implements engineering-based solutions that optimize warehousing and logistics operations within the company. This position exists to create efficient facility layouts, develop capacity, productivity, and throughput optimization strategies, and integrate automation technologies with existing information systems as appropriate. The role aims to enhance overall operational capacity and productivity, reduce costs, and ensure that logistics processes are agile and scalable. This is a regional role and can the based in any of the following markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand.
Responsibilities:
Warehousing and Facility Design: maximize warehouse capacity through innovative design, utilizing the latest technology and design innovations.
Performance Measure: Develop detailed designs for both new and existing warehouse layouts within project timelines aligned with business and stakeholder requirements, tactically and strategically.
Capacity Optimization: Maintain and review current and future network capacity requirements (at operational level). Effectively project future demand and develop business case recommendations to accommodate business growth targets.
Performance Measure: Conduct capacity assessments for existing facilities and provide optimization recommendations that deliver optimal capacity utilization whilst maintaining or improving operational efficiency, productivity, and/or quality.
Process Optimization: Leverage processes optimization tools (e.g. VSM, 6Sigma) to support Operations to identify process-level optimization opportunities. Review Site Improvement Plan in conjunction with site Operations leadership and other relevant stakeholders, and support execution of improvement initiatives.
Performance Measure: Govern (and where appropriate drive) improvement initiatives at the site level that deliver cost reduction and/or enhancement that tangibly improve Operational safety, quality, and P&L outcomes.
Automation Solution Development: Keep abreast with the latest innovative technologies and implement fit-for-purpose solutions.
Performance Measure: Design and support implementation of automation solutions for warehousing processes.
Integration with Information Technology: Ensure that warehouse automation solutions are fully integrated with information systems.
Performance Measure: Facilitate the integration of automated solutions with IT systems ensuring not only efficient product but also information flow.
Project Management and Implementation Support: Cross-functional collaboration and coordination while adhering to the governance structure.
Performance Measure: Collaborate and assist in the management and implementation of design projects, ensuring all projects are completed on time and within budget.
Documentation and Compliance: Ensure that engineering design and facility blue prints are up-to-date.
Performance Measure: Maintain accurate documentation of engineering designs and compliance with industry standards.
Train and develop a community of Logistics Engineers / Industrial Engineers / Operations Excellence resources at the market level.
Performance Measure: Availability of talent with the right attitude, skills, and competencies at the right time and cost.
Challenges to Manager:
- Balancing Cost and Innovation: Designing solutions that are both cost-effective and innovative can be challenging. Proactively researching new technologies and efficiencies can help achieve this balance.
- Managing Change: Implementing new technologies and design changes may meet resistance from staff. Effective change management practices, including training and transparent communication, will facilitate smoother transitions.
- Integration Complexity: Ensuring new automation solutions integrate with existing (or enhanced) Operational processes and IT systems can be complex. Collaborating closely with Operations and IT teams and utilizing standardized protocols will enhance integration success.
- Maintaining Flexibility: The logistics industry is constantly evolving. Solutions must be flexible enough to adapt to changing demands, which requires ongoing assessment and refinement of processes.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Aligning various stakeholder interests during the design and implementation phases can be challenging. Regular meetings and updates will ensure that all parties are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in logistics solutions design, industrial engineering (in a logistics environment), warehouse management, or logistics engineering, with a strong background in automation and facilities design.
