The job holder assists doctors to provide care for patients in EMD Consultation Room

The job-holder will undertake tasks assigned and supervised by registered nurses

and enrolled nurses.

  • Duties and Responsibilities

2.1 Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)

2.1.1 Prepare and assist doctors in the consultation room

2.1.2 Assist doctors, registered nurses and enrolled nurses in preparing patient physically for procedures and after procedures

  • Prepare trolleys and requisites for basic and intermediate procedures intravenous cannulation, venepuncture, blood culture, urinary catheterization, dressings, toilet and suturing, incisional and drainage and digital block.

2.1.3 Admit conscious patients with stable condition

  • Make correct entry into bed request form
  • Measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure before admission to ward

2.1.4 Perform discharges of patient

  • Use two patient identifier before discharge patient
  • Obtain follow-up appointment for patient
  • Provide relevant discharge advice
  • Check all documents are correct before giving to patient
  • Remove IV plug before patient leaves the hospital

2.1.5 Assist the registered nurses in providing basic care planned for patients

  • Change bed linen and make up beds
  • Dress and assist with personal hygiene of patients
  • Attend to skin care of patients with stable conditions
  • Assist with lifting, moving and transporting patients

2.1.6 Assist registered nurses in observing and reporting patient's condition and progress

  • Obtain, record and report temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure of

adult patients with stable condition.

  • Observe general condition of patients and report all observations (usual and

unusual) to the nurse-in-charge

2.1.7 Give and remove / assist to give / remove bedpans and urinals to patients

2.1.8 Help registered nurses carry out simple procedures related to treatment under supervision

  • Apply warm/cold compress and carry out tepid sponging
  • Remove IV plugs / peripheral IV cannula

2.1.9 Maintain a clean and safe working environment

2.1.10 Assist with general duties

  • Answer call bells and give assistance within constraint of his/her responsibilities
  • Perform inventory check of equipment

2.1.11 Assist the Registered Nurses in performing diagnostic monitoring

  • Perform QC test of glucometer and urisys machine
  • Perform peripheral blood glucose test by finger prick, urinalysis and urine pregnancy test
  • Perform 12 leads ECG
  • Help to observe for change in patient's condition
  • Report change in patient's condition to Registered Nurse
  • Perform cardiac pulmonary resuscitation

2.2 Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (20%)

2.2.1 Perform other duties assigned by Nurse Manager / Senior Nurse Manager

2.2.2 Participate in service quality activities

2.2.3 Attend in-service lectures and courses

3.1 At least GCE 'O' level education

3.2 Practical knowledge of hospital operations is an added advantage

3.3 Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office)

3.4 Possess good interpersonal and communication skills

3.5 Display compassion, a positive and caring attitude towards patients, internal and external clients.
