Job Description

Position Description

As a major player in the global LNG and coal markets, JERAGM enters into a large number of contracts for physical LNG and coal. These contracts range from individual spot cargo transactions to more complex structured deals. The commercial and operational terms of these contracts are managed via counterparty specific Master Agreements, Long-Form Agreements or industry-agreed Standard Master Agreements.

The candidate will be part of the Contracts team within the Legal and Compliance department, working with a team of Contracts Specialists based in Singapore and London, who will be responsible for the contracts management process primarily for the physical coal business (and support for the LNG business if necessary) for contracts and confirmation notices that cover deals originated in both the Asia Pacific, Europe and the U.S.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • To draft transaction contracts primarily for physical coal deals (and if required, the confirmation notices for physical LNG deals) to reflect both the commercial terms agreed with our external and internal counterparties and the relevant counterparty agreement, in a fit for purpose format and in accordance with JERAGM internal guidelines.
  • To review counterparty’s transaction contracts primarily for physical coal deals (and if required, the confirmation notices for physical LNG deals) to reflect both the commercial terms agreed with our external and internal counterparties and the relevant counterparty agreement and comply with JERAGM internal guidelines.
  • To work closely with all internal stakeholders to manage the physical contract workflow process from deal conclusion to final signature in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that all processes comply with JERAGM internal guidelines.
  • To review all counterparty’s counters/suggested changes in the contracts/confirmation notices and make recommendations to the JERAGM Trading team and JERAGM Legal with respect to their validity, ensuring that the terms are acceptable in accordance with JERAGM’s policy.
  • Work closely with JERAGM Legal on any legal or compliance issues that arises during the course of reviewing/negotiating the trading contracts.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a (physical) commodity trading environment with significant responsibility for contracts review, drafting and negotiation.
  • A thorough understanding of the physical transaction life cycle, gained within an energy trading environment, is essential for this role.
  • Familiarity with the contractual terms, shipping terms and formats associated with the trading of physical Coal cargoes and/or LNG cargoes.
  • Well versed in incoterms and its application.
  • Experience of working directly with the trading or legal functions of an energy trading company.
