Summary
The Asia Business Development Team is at the forefront of Lightsource bp’s growth in the region with the backing of several internal functional teams (structured finance, financial modelling, legal, technical). It is responsible with identifying all new markets/business models, originating opportunities, building business plans, and executing them following executive committee approval. Examples of work would include selecting and building the new market entry strategy for a new country or new technology, the acquisition of other platforms/projects/asset pipeline, participating in auctions in countries Lightsource bp has no presence. Finally, the team also facilitates the execution of all solar related projects of strategic importance to bp outside of LSbp’s current existing markets.
The Asia Business Development Team is looking for a well-rounded individual, to be part of a high performing international team with challenging targets/opportunities as well as diverse projects in nature. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Director of Business Development Asia and be instrumental in influencing the overall team strategy and consequently Lightsource bp’ growth strategy across the region.
Role and Responsibilities
• Build business plans from scratch for countries in which Lightsource bp has no presence
• Lead business plan execution: platform/company acquisition, project/pipeline acquisition, co-development agreements, hiring, integration plan, tax/legal structuring, structured finance, marketing/PR, country management until autonomous operations
• Project/pipeline/co-development execution: from opportunity origination to financial close, including contract negotiation support and due diligence (tax, legal, technical) coordination and managing third party engagement
• Lead auction processes submissions from identification and internal approvals to successful participation and execution
• Originate opportunities in multiple jurisdictions and market segments
• Develop strong external relationships with key stakeholders throughout the market
• Coordinate work with inputs required from multiple functions across different offices as well as manage and run financial models to assess the economics of projects
• Manage and run financial models to assess the economics of multiple projects
• Be responsible for project and platform budgets, timelines, and overall success.
• Reporting concisely and clearly to the Board and Investment Committee on market trends.
• Frequent travel
Who we’re looking for
Knowledge
• A broad understanding of the renewables industry, power markets and project development (solar, wind, BESS)
• Understanding of project finance, capital structuring and financial modelling
• Strong understanding of general transaction management (managing internal resource/consultants/stakeholders, adhering to transaction timeline)
• Strong understanding of power project/real estate development (land, grid interconnection, permitting)
• Comfortable with the following contracts: Co-development Agreements, Land related Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Engineering-Procurement-Construction contracts, Share Purchase Agreements, Asset Purchase Agreements, Investment Agreements
Experience
• 10+ years of experience in either of: Infrastructure funds/PE with specific power/renewables experience, renewable energy developer, IPP or utility with specific focus on renewables or engineering consultancy / investment bank with an energy focus
• Regional origination experience, experience executing complex RES M&A transactions in more than one country.
• Proven track record of transaction management (multiple running in parallel), RES business development and origination, working in multi-cultural/multi-discipline environments.
• Delivering growth in a new market through origination and execution
• Experience in multiple markets, including “frontier” markets, is a plus.
• Experience in hybrid projects and/or BESS is a plus

Education and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree ideally in sciences, engineering or finance
• MBA or master’s in finance preferred (engineering masters also acceptable if coupled with financial experience)
• Fluent in English written and spoken and ideally any other Asian language.
