UWCSEA East has a vacancy for a Part-Time Teacher of Cantonese for our Home Languages Programme (HLP) from February 2025.
The Home Languages Programme is for students who want to maintain a language spoken at home but who do not study this language as part of the academic curriculum during the school day at appropriate level.
The students’ ag es are from 4 to 1 8 ye ars o d. HLP classes are taught in small groups of 3 to 6 students of similar ag es and linguistic levels and will take place after school (or at lunchtime for some younger students).
To apply for this role, you must reside in Singapore. Please note that we may not be able to sponsor a work pass for this role.
Main Responsibilities
- Thoroughly plan, prepare and teach classes addressing the various levels of students in the class. (Differentiation)
- Exhibit excellent classroom management skills.
- Use digital resources to enhance students’ learning.
- Provide samples of students’ learning in the school online learning platform for parents to follow students’ progress.
- Provide feedback to parents, when required
Person Specifications
- A recognized teaching qualification or certification is desirable. Candidate without teaching qualifications but possess experience teaching a ge group from 4 to 16 ye ars ol d with appropriate resources are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates must have the ability to teach Cantonese to students who speak Cantonese as their home language or as a foreign language.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
- Contribute positively and collaboratively to the development of Cantonese Language and Culture in the Home and Community Languages Programmes.
- Promote cultural exchange and cross-cultural understanding, and to embed Cantonese customs, history and traditions in the lessons.
