New Curriculum - Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core
NTU is reshaping its undergraduate curriculum to emphasise interdisciplinary and collaborative learning in the foundation years. This interdisciplinary and collaborative curriculum, consisting of 7 core courses, is designed to enhance students' cognitive agility, competence, and character beyond their chosen majors. These core courses are mandatory across all NTU undergraduate programmes and will be concentrated in the first two years of study, featuring mixed-class environments to foster multidisciplinary collaboration from the outset of students’ university experience. Through diverse team projects and assignments, students will engage in group learning that spans different disciplines.
The content for these core courses is developed by faculty from a range of fields to offer multiple perspectives on key issues, aligning with NTU's graduate attributes. Each course emphasises key transferable skills and addresses global challenges. A flipped classroom approach is used, allowing students to learn the materials before class, thereby maximising in-class deep learning, collaborative discussions and group activities.
"Science and Technology for Humanity" (ST4H), one of the core courses, is inviting candidates to contribute to NTU’s Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC) curriculum. Required for all undergraduates, ST4H explores the social, economic, and political impacts of science and technology, encouraging students to address societal issues through an interdisciplinary lens that integrates both STEM and non-STEM perspectives.
This role is pivotal to the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC) Office’s mission to implement an interdisciplinary and collaborative curriculum aimed at cultivating future-ready graduates.
Key responsibilities include:
Facilitating and conducting all teaching assignments, both face-to-face and virtual delivery
Developing an instructional plan (known as a course outline or syllabus) for the course(s) they teach and ensuring that it meets university standards
Developing, designing, and continuously improving lesson plans and class activities, assignment tasks and rubrics to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement
Supporting course administration such as course evaluation, online course materials, attendance records, academic counselling on student progress
Conducting assessments, marking and grade entries, feedback to students, student consultations, non-academic matters etc.
Developing course materials and learning resources for course delivery and support students’ learning
Providing regular course and student progress statistics for reporting and strategic decision making
Taking on course co-coordination responsibility, and working with others in the course as a team to ensure a positive and supportive learning and working environment for all—students, staff and faculty
Demonstrating values and principles of professional conduct in all endeavours
Any other assigned duties
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
MA or PhD training across STEM and/or humanities and social science fields
Training relevant to one of the course topics (e.g., the future of work, Al and robotics, technology’s role in rebalancing power, transformations for health and wellbeing, life beyond humanity)
Teaching and mentoring experience and experience with team teaching is preferred
Interest and/or proficiency in technology-enhanced learning (e.g., developing online learning activities and assessments, creating lectures to be streamed online)
Ability to work in a team
A demonstrated potential for scholarship is an advantage
