A Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen by providing essential support to chefs and other kitchen staff. The role involves maintaining cleanliness, preparing ingredients, and performing basic cooking tasks under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and Maintenance: Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, workstations, and storage spaces. Dispose of waste appropriately and follow health and safety standards.
Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of ingredients (e.g., peeling, chopping, and measuring). Prepare simple dishes under guidance (e.g., salads, sandwiches). Replenish food supplies in the kitchen as needed.
Stock Management: Unpack and store deliveries appropriately. Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to the supervisor. Ensure proper storage of ingredients to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
Team Support: Assist chefs and cooks during busy service times. Transport food items and equipment between sections of the kitchen. Respond quickly to instructions from senior kitchen staff.
Compliance and Safety: Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and health regulations. Handle kitchen tools and machinery safely. Wear appropriate protective clothing and maintain a professional appearance.
