The Mechanical Engineer shall manage Mechanical engineering works & team from project start to finish which encompasses tender preparation, submission, clarification, system design, budgeting, project management, site coordination, client management and worker management with a strong leadership and organizational skills.
The scope shall encompass the following:
Job description:
- Responsible in managing all Mechanical engineering works for the projects from concept stage, design development, contract documentation, authority submissions, site administration, and project management to project completion.
- Lead and manage the team including performance appraisal and manpower planning for the project.
- Prepare scope of work, sub-contracts, and customer proposals including Preliminary Design and Tender preparation, submission and Tender Clarification follow up for Mechanical works.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets for Mechanical works including equipment selection, etc.
- Participate in engineering process to control cost and client budget requirements of project.
- Develop Mechanical works’ project schedule and monitor/update as project progresses, and forecasting engineering activities and procurement of materials required for project to ensure timely completion of project.
- Preparing and providing technical interpretation of design documents in support of installation such as checking of drawings, preparation of data sheets for client approval, project BOM, SOW for subcontractor.
- Design and detailed design including equipment selection, duct and pipe sizing, and work with drafting team on the development of construction and shop drawings.
- Review method statement for construction activities and Safe Work Procedure for operational plant & Construction site.
- Provide specific expertise for problem solving of mechanical issues.
- Provide technical evaluation of subcontractor and equipment proposals.
- Monitor and inspect construction to ensure compliance with design documents.
- Perform Testing & Commissioning works.
- Coordination and liaise with Architects/ Consultants / Main Contractors / Vendors / Sub-Contractors / Clients and Authorities for design and with other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of project including monitoring Workers’ and Subcontractor’s’ work progress.
- Ensure timely submission of monthly progress claim.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other equivalent certificates, with Project execution & management knowledge.
- Minimum 5 years’ field experience in Construction industry managing multi-disciplinary projects in semiconductors or pharmaceutical industry with some experience in a subcontracting firm. Candidates with no prior experience but with relevant working Mechanical Engineering knowledge are welcome to apply.
- Have core competency in any one of the below Mechanical Services and a good working knowledge on the others:

- Plumbing & Sanitary System
- Process system (Hookup)
- Excellent understanding of commercial Mechanical & Electrical systems.
- Good working knowledge in construction contract / commercial term and condition.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills and experienced in managing staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (including technical writing and presentations) with ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and senior management staff.
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision and a dedicated team player.
- Highly motivated individuals with the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Project Engineer (Penang Malaysia)
The Project Engineer shall be in charge of managing the project team and project to completion accordingly to project schedule, including resolving of operational issues and liaising with clients, subcon, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
The job scope shall encompass the following:

- Prepare Project schedule, forecasting engineering activities and procurement of materials required for project to ensure timely completion of project.
- Oversee the overall planning & management of M&E works, site inspection, variation order and certification of work done for all assigned projects.
- Plan and oversee manpower allocation, resources allocation and conflicts management including managing & appraising work performance of supervisors, workers & subcons.
- Plan and oversee testing & commissioning of the systems and activities, provide advice and decision on all project operational related matters including reviewing of project related drawings and other materials prepared by the Drafters or Coordinators to ensure there is no discrepancies and/or conflicts with the architectural and structural elements.
- Monitor and inspect projects such as Mechanical / Process Piping, Plumbing & Sanitary system, HVAC system and Fire Protection systems to ensure compliance with design documents and statutory requirements.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets to control cost and kept to clients’ budget requirements and ensure timely submission of monthly progress claim.
- Preparing and providing technical interpretation of design documents in support of installation such as checking of Piping / Ducting layout, Isometric and schematic drawings, and pipeline stress analysis report, etc.
- Provide assistance in procurement of mechanical equipment like valve, piping and filters and coordinate with vendors on technical matters.
- Ensure timely submission of monthly progress claim.
- Escalation of project matters and concerns to management team.
- Monitor the project safety (EHS matter) & QMS (Quality Management), make precise decision to stop, enhance or move forward whenever necessary.
- Any other adhoc duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience as Project Engineer in Construction industry, preferably with Semiconductors/Pharmaceutical industry exposure.
- Minimum Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years relevant experience.
- Must have valid CIDB SICW/e-SICW qualification.
- Proficient in MS Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Prefer to have clean room construction experience but not a must.
- Good working knowledge of construction industry.
- Good interpersonal skills and leadership skills.
- Good English communication skills and report writing skills.
- Both a team player and the ability to work independently.
- Highly motivated individuals with the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
