The Dementia Research Centre (Singapore) [DRCS], part of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), is dedicated to advancing research on cognitive impairment and dementia spectrum disorders. As a multi-study research center, DRCS focuses on the pathobiology of Asian dementia and innovative models of care for cognitive disorders. Led by Associate Professor Nagaendran Kandiah, an internationally renowned clinician-scientist, DRCS is spearheading transformative research initiatives like the BIOCIS study, CHOICE project, and AMBITION study.
Position: Research Assistant / Research Associate
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Assistant or Research Associate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Biomedical Engineering or Neuroscience or Psychology and related fields, to contribute to ongoing and future research initiatives, including BIOCIS (Biomarkers and Cognition Study, Singapore), CHOICE (Cerebrovascular Health, Optical Imaging, Cognition, and Evaluation of Lifestyle Intervention Study), and AMBITION (Asian Mild Cognitive Impairment – Blood-based Biomarkers, Ischemia, and Neuroinflammation Changes in the Asian Brain). The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing neuroimaging and optical imaging research in dementia.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Management and Analysis:
- Organize and execute processing of imaging data using open source imaging algorithms and interpret results from neuroimaging and eye imaging studies
- Collaborate with data analysis teams to ensure integrity and clarity in the research outputs across all studies.
- Perform study-related statistical analyses
- Develop machine learning models to track disease progression using advanced statistical analyses
- Conduct literature reviews
- Prepare analysis plans, reports and manuscripts
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within DRCS and external collaborators to ensure the success of multi-study initiatives.
- Communicate research findings in peer-reviewed publications, internal seminars, and conferences.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Masters in Biomedical Engineering or Neuroscience or Psychology and related fields
- Have experience in dealing with data on disorders of the nervous system such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other dementias
- Experience with human brain imaging or eye imaging data will be highly regarded
- Hands-on experience in data analyses and implementing statistical analysis using statistical software such as R, Python and MATLAB
- Proven track record in research with evidence of publications or other research outputs
- Keen interest in clinical research and hypothesis testing and good critical thinking skills
- Good IT literacy skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
