Overall Purpose of The Job

The Regional Vessel Financial Controller will be a key member of the vessel financial operation for Shipmanagement ensuring accuracy, timeliness and integrity of the core financial statements that are sent to our clients. As a key member of the V. finance team, the role will require close working with other members of the Group finance team including Finance Business Partners in SM and V.Services, the Group Controlling team to ensure consistent accounting rules and standards are applied to our client reporting, the GSS team, etc as well as other functions in the Group including IT and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Management responsibilities of Vessel Financial Controllers (VFCs) across geographies.
  • Driving improvements to the financial reporting to our clients including accuracy, timeliness, variance reporting and forecasting.
  • Developing a business partnering approach for the VFCs within the Fleet Cell including involvement with the vessel budgeting process and comparing vessel operating costs with similar vessels in the managed fleet across the Group and with external market data, where available.
  • Drive improvements in reducing the financial risk in vessel accounting including the financial risk assessment of all new vessels entering management, prompt receipt of all funds due from our clients, proper explanation to clients for cost overruns and the closure of bank accounts of vessels leaving management in a timely manner
  • Monitoring adherence to the Group’s payment priorities Standard Operating Procedure across the offices under your responsibility including leading on calls with the office Managing Director and VFCs to drive down the debt levels on Group companies and key contracted suppliers.
  • Be a key member of the finance team in participating in ShipSure vessel accounting relating development projects.
  • Work with the Group Controlling team on all client audit related issues including the SSAE18 (or equivalent) audits and to improve the control environment within vessel accounts / operations.
  • Assisting in development of financial operational strategies internally that align to meeting the service delivery to our clients.
  • Build strong relationships and trust with the financial stakeholders in our key clients and attend client meetings where required to support the Managing Directors / Fleet Managers in all financial related issues.
  • Build strong relationships and trust with the financial stakeholders across the Group including the GSS leadership team.
  • Work closely with the GSS Vessel Accounting leadership team to improve on quality of the finance product provided to our clients and help develop a product / platform that can be sold to Ship Owners managing their vessels in-house.
  • Developing the VFCs and Vessel Accounting colleagues in the GSS (and wider vessel finance team) through active coaching and management of goals & objectives, identifying and planning development opportunities, and identifying future talent and capability needs.
