About the Role

The Business Times (BT) is South-east Asia’s leading business publication based in Singapore, the region’s financial hub. As part of BT’s digital transformation, we are looking for a driven and self-motivated individual passionate about quality business journalism to take on the role of Strategy & Growth Editor.

In this role, you will occupy a key position in BT’s cross-functional audience and editorial set up, and be involved in planning and executing strategies to drive BT’s next phase of audience growth.

You will work across BT to chart the trajectory of our expanding coverage by implementing a revamped content strategy, new storytelling formats and an updated set of editorial operations. Partnering with news and product leadership, you will develop and articulate clear goals, strategies and tactics for growth by helping to guide decisions on what gets covered and how.

The aim is to elevate the reach and impact of BT’s journalism and ensure our continued relevance as a product that meets our audiences’ needs.

This role involves both strategic thinking and operational implementation. You may be required to demonstrate best practices as part of the journey to educate the larger newsroom.

You will report to the Executive Editor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong newsroom network that will connect all reporting teams and functions, helping BT to optimise the execution of high-impact storytelling
  • Think strategically about storytelling opportunities and approaches, and how to best communicate across the newsroom
  • Drive editorial planning and operational excellence for an integrated newsroom.
  • Ensure that our most important and thoughtfully planned journalism is optimized in all aspects, including search engines and social media channels.
  • Build promotion plans for journalism projects, generate story ideas, and communicate data back to the wider newsroom

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or degree-equivalent qualifications
  • At least 8 years of journalism experience, with at least 5 years at a digital news organisation
  • Experience covering financial markets as a reporter and editor
  • Experience in driving audience growth with cross-platform planning and project management
  • Experience in change management and proven ability in using data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience are required
  • A flair for story packaging combined with knowledge of emergent platforms and best practices in digital media
