Project Title: Early Support for Foundational Skills of Preschool Children at Socio-economic Risk in Singapore

Project Introduction: This project funded by the MOE Science of Learning (SoL) Programme takes a proof-of-concept approach to develop and trial the efficacy of targeted interventions for preschool children at Nursery 2 in Singapore to build their foundational skills - both academic and non-academic. A randomized controlled design is applied to gauge intervention efficacy in preschool classrooms. The goal of the research programme is to translate the research findings into packages of professional development and teaching materials for early childhood classrooms. The overarching aim is to improve essential skills for low SES children before they enter kindergarten.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the research project in this translational study. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to details and accuracy, good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field from a University of good standing
  • Possess excellent communication skills with a good command of the English language to perform literature reviews, and create visual infographics for presentations
  • Good administration skills, including data management and storage
  • Experience with relevant software (Microsoft Office, SPSS, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to work within given deadlines
  • Able to work independently in self-directed manner
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with young children


Responsibilities
  • Liaise and work closely with stakeholders from external institutions
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist with preparing research progress reports
  • Participant recruitment and coordination with school/centre staff
  • Oversee data collection using psychological and psychoeducational testing
  • To manage meticulous record keeping of the research project and oversee data processing, management and archiving.
  • To lead undergraduate student and part-time research staff working on this project
  • To assist with preparation and materials development for interventions
  • To carry any other duties as required by Principal Investigator
