Research Associate (Visual Communication)

The Design Ethics and Visual Integrity Lab at the School of Art, Design, and Media, founded by Assistant Professor Lisa Winstanley, is seeking a dedicated Research Associate. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge projects focused on addressing visual plagiarism, with the goal of developing and implementing participatory design workshops for international and interdisciplinary design educators.

This position involves overseas travel to Europe and the USA, and the candidate will play a crucial role in investigating industry perceptions of visual plagiarism, facilitating interviews, and handling sensitive data with the utmost confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Overseeing the day-to-day operations of research projects
• Developing and implementing project management strategies
• Literature reviews and data compilation
• Developing and maintaining project operational procedures, training materials, and documents
• Facilitating meetings
• Maintaining accurate records of workshop participants, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
• Transcribing and summarizing workshop data
• Analysis of qualitative data
• Performing data pre-processing and analysis
• Managing and maintaining project records
• Supporting role in delivering participatory design workshops
• Supporting role in conducting and facilitating semi-structured Interviews
• Assisting in the preparation and writing of progress reports, presentations, abstracts, manuscripts and publications, including outputs aimed at the general public.
• Creating visual and textual materials for public communications
• Performing other ad hoc administrative duties to support the research projects

Job Requirements:

• Master Degree in Relevant Field is essential
• Demonstrate a friendly demeanor
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English is essential to conduct research
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• High degree of responsibility and maturity
• Ability to travel to Europe and USA is a must
• Proficiency in Qualitative Research Methods
• Experience with project management
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team of researchers
• Flexibility in responding to fluid situations.
• Task-orientation, excellent organisational skills, attention to details and accuracy
• Experience in the field of graphic design would be advantageous
• Track record of scholarly publications and knowledge mobilisation is a distinct advantage
