Reports to: Vice President, Global Supply Chain

Structure: Reporting directly to the Vice President, Global Supply Chain, the Senior / Director Contract Manufacturing will be responsible for leading the Global Contract Manufacturing organization for ASM.

Position Summary

ASM is looking for an experienced, dynamic leader for our Contract Manufacturing team.

ASM currently procures over 30% of its product from contract manufacturers making this the largest commodity within the company in sourcing. ASM is on a journey to increase its product sourcing % in contract manufacturing to well over 60% over the coming few years as well as to enable contract manufacturers to fully customize, test fully, and ship ASM’s modules directly to customers. Increasingly, ASM is also seeking to bring contract manufacturers to the design table earlier in the product development process to enable getting new modules directly from contract manufacturers in New Product Development Additionally, ASM is also looking to start outsourcing “submodules” to contract manufacturers which will enable significantly lower ASM costs/overheads of large internal production and allow ASM to scale and grow much faster. As such, this organization's leader has a “run the business” responsibility, which is significant, and a “change how we do things” responsibility that will require a strong level of change leadership acumen and interest.

The Senior / Director, Contract Manufacturing is responsible for leading the global Contract Manufacturing team and providing strategic leadership in the development and execution of ASM’s global outsourcing strategies. This includes developing and maintaining relationships with key suppliers, negotiating contracts, driving process improvements, ensuring supply continuity, and providing strategic leadership aligned with ASM’s overall business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the outsourcing and contract manufacturing partners globally. Optimize supplier performance including Quality, Cycle time, Delivery, Cost, New Product Development, Supply Chain Management, etc.
    • Work within the team to establish and develop a Commodity Plan based on the company’s strategy and direction. Adapts the strategy as business, market, and economic environments change.
    • Establish and maintain Supplier Classification and Supplier Capability Matrix.
    • Constantly evaluates and identifies supplier risks in terms of financial, quality, delivery, cost, capacity, system, market, etc, and proactively leads efforts to address those risks.
    • Ensure robust BCP plans are in place for all outsourced modules, down to the contract manufacturer as needed.
    • Maintain supplier relationships which includes onsite visits, regular conference calls and supplier coming in visits.
    • Be the primary contact point and relationship owners and understand the supplier’s organization structure, work shift, business roadmap, infrastructure planning,
    • Be the Point of Escalation and collaborate with various internal groups to resolve any issues from supplier’s cost, quality, delivery, and design performance.

    • Overall Accountability of Supply Assurance by product lines and other KPIs (key performance indicators) as defined by the organization
  • Analyzes market trends
    • Conduct market analysis for price, lead time, and capacity
    • Submit risk buy proposals to ensure supply continuity
    • Analyze market drivers that affect the commodity (raw material, component availability, global supply and demand, etc.)
    • Understand current trends in AI (Artificial Intelligence), technology, and automation
  • Initiates and conducts supplier contract negotiations
    • Conducts spend analysis, leading to negotiation with the supply base
    • Establishes service level agreements in accordance with business needs and requirements
    • Establishes terms and conditions for contracts
  • Conducts Supplier Performance Reviews and drives Supplier Scorecard improvements
    • Conducts technology roadmap alignment with Engineering
    • Identifies and drives cost-reduction opportunities
    • Reviews delivery and cycle time performance and quality performance
    • Manage ECO and change management responses from suppliers
    • Review contract service level agreement performance
  • Manages supplier change requests to support supply continuity due to EOL, cost reduction, etc
  • Develops and executes annual and multiyear sourcing plans for spending related to our outsourced contract manufacturing suppliers.
  • Identifies gaps in direction vs. industry. Provides recommendations to address gaps or to lead by differentiating.
  • Takes strategic lead and champions process improvement projects.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading a global team of direct and indirect reports
  • Willingness to be located in Singapore a high priority with Malaysia being, also, a possibility
  • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or a technical leadership position in a low volume high-value manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and knowledge in large module manufacturing and processes.
  • Experience and knowledge in Copy Exactly! culture
  • Competence with MS Office software, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Powerpoint are necessary.
  • Proven leadership ability and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Strong negotiation skills and record of accomplishment
  • Relationship-building skills
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams in a matrix organization required.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and project management skills required
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quantify/evaluate manufacturing processes and technologies to ensure “best total cost” solutions for purchased components and new product cost parameters.

  • Planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle many projects are required.
  • SAP ERP experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading change in an organization
  • Artificial Intelligence or successful use of other tools to improve efficiency and automation

Education

  • Minimum a Bachelor's degree in engineering, Supply Chain or Master of Business Administration of other advanced degrees (Engineering, Finance, etc)
