Engineering Lab Specialist
We're looking for a hands-on technical specialist to support the evaluation, testing, and analysis of electrical components and systems. The role involves a mix of practical lab work, process development, and collaborative troubleshooting, with a particular focus on ensuring safety, performance, and compliance across various stages of product development.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct structured technical evaluations, troubleshooting sessions, and performance assessments, adhering to pre-established protocols and adapting procedures for new technologies as needed.
- Assist in the planning and execution of comprehensive testing strategies for new hardware platforms, from initial builds through scaled production.
- Collaborate with Engineering Leads to refine testing approaches, generate reports, and maintain documentation that supports traceability and compliance.
- Design, implement, and monitor procedures for data logging, test quality, and outcome verification.
- Coordinate with cross-functional labs and technical partners to align testing efforts and validate methodologies.
- Oversee the logistics surrounding the intake, storage, and handling of units and materials in line with safety and operational standards.
- Ensure all testing tools and instrumentation are maintained, calibrated, and functioning optimally.
- Apply relevant safety and compliance standards (such as UL and IEC series) in daily workflows and contribute to audit and maintenance routines.
- Engage in routine lab upkeep including 5S practices, preventive checks, and participation in health and safety assessments.
- Work with team members to delegate tasks and streamline workflows across various project initiatives.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and a curiosity-driven attitude toward continuous improvement.
- Collect, refine, and interpret experimental data to support engineering conclusions and design feedback.
Preferred Expertise:
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field is strongly preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience or specialized training may be considered where appropriate.
- Hands-on experience in electronics teardown, diagnostics, and rework, especially within consumer hardware.
- Background in at least one of the following: battery systems, printed circuit boards, or power electronics.
- Familiarity with failure analysis methods for consumer electronic devices at both the system and component level.
- Exposure to real-world product performance data and quality tracking within large-scale manufacturing environments.
- Skilled in using lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, microscopes, and thermal sensors. Familiarity with imaging techniques like X-ray or CT scanning is a plus.
- Understanding of battery architectures and common failure scenarios is advantageous.
- Knowledge of global safety frameworks and compliance requirements, particularly in the Chinese and international context.
- Comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a dynamic team environment.
- Capable of logical analysis, structured thinking, and data interpretation using statistical methods.
- Proficient in standard productivity software for reporting and collaboration.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is highly preferred as this will be working closely with Mandarin-speaking teams, stakeholders, and vendors.
This is a contract role based in Singapore.
