
Manager - ASRS Maintenance
The ASRS Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) within a warehouse or distribution center environment. This role involves managing a team of engineers, technicians, and operators, implementing best practices, ensuring system reliability and efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to the ASRS operation and maintenance team. Hire, train, and develop staff members, establish performance goals, and conduct regular performance evaluations. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
System Operation: Oversee the day-to-day operation of the ASRS equipment, including cranes, conveyors, robotics, and automated storage systems. Monitor system performance, throughput, and uptime to ensure smooth operation and timely retrieval of stored items.
Maintenance Management: Coordinate preventive maintenance activities, repairs, and upgrades for ASRS equipment. Develop maintenance schedules, work orders, and procedures to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability. Collaborate with maintenance technicians and external service providers as needed.
Process Optimization: Analyze system performance metrics, such as cycle time, throughput, and inventory accuracy, to identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements. Implement workflow adjustments, system configurations, or automation solutions to enhance productivity and throughput.
Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, standards, and protocols governing ASRS operations. Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and training programs to promote a safe working environment for ASRS operators, maintenance technicians, and other warehouse personnel.
Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence and innovation in ASRS operations. Establish and maintain best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality improvement projects. Participate in cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements and technology upgrades.
Budget Management: Develop and manage the departmental budget, including expenses related to equipment maintenance, spare parts inventory, labor costs, and capital expenditures. Monitor and track monthly expenses which include spare part consumption, over time, outsourced services, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure budgetary compliance.
SAP EAM system: Working with Operational Excellence and innovation team from HQ by leveraging SAP EAM for ASRS Preventive maintenance to enhance the lifecycle of assets in an organization by optimizing the performance, availability, and longevity of the physical assets while managing maintenance processes efficiently.
Stakeholder Communication: Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders, including warehouse operations, supply chain management, and senior leadership, to provide updates on ASRS performance, project status, and strategic initiatives. Address any issues or concerns proactively and collaborate on problem-solving efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in ASRS operation, maintenance, or management roles, with a proven track record of leadership and team management.
- Strong technical skills in mechanical, electrical, and software systems, with knowledge of warehouse automation technologies.
