Job Responsibilities:

Teaching

  • Plan and prepare lessons.
  • Teach a range of in-service training courses.
  • Teach certification courses leading to certificate/diploma/first degree level.
  • Teach higher degree courses.
  • Conduct school-based workshops/specialised courses.
  • Conduct professional training courses for overseas teachers and educators in their specialised areas.
  • Conduct public workshops and courses relating to Chinese language teaching and learning, parental coaching, Chinese culture etc.
  • Develop new courses and teaching materials including online resources, teaching packages, professional guides etc for a wide range of courses.
  • Provide consultations for schools (local and overseas) in their specialised areas.
  • Supervise local/overseas interns.
  • Supervise school teachers attending professional development program.
  • Supervise certificate/diploma candidates in independent/group projects.
  • Supervise post-graduate candidates in dissertation or thesis.
  • Supervise overseas post-graduate students.

Research

  • Plan, design, develop, lead and evaluate research projects.
  • Present and disseminate research findings, both orally and in writing.
  • Participate in local and international conferences related to their research areas.
  • Participate in symposiums, forums and seminars related to their research areas.
  • Publish journal papers, book chapters in scholarly books, technical reports, professional articles, review articles etc in their research areas in both Chinese and English languages.
  • Publish collection of manuscripts in their research areas.
  • Deliver keynote speeches, invited speeches at conferences/symposiums/forums/seminars at school cluster or national level.
  • Lead, supervise and nurture research team members to facilitate their professional growth.
  • Lead and develop collaborating teachers to help construct communities of teacher researchers.
  • Liaise closely with internal and external stakeholders/collaborators.

Service

  • Provide professional service, e.g. Member of professional committee/specialised talks/editor/external examiner/marker/reviewer etc.
  • Provide public and social service, e.g. Judge of language competitions, advisor of government organisations etc.
  • Provide administrative service to SCCL/NIE/NTU/MOE. List of services include serving as Dean, Head, Chair, Co-ordination of department/committee and members of working committee etc. as assigned by ED or as invited by NIE/NTU/MOE and approved by ED.

Job Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree, preferably in Education.
  • At least 5 years of relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience in teaching in schools or institutes of higher learning, preferably in Singapore.
  • Expertise in educational research and/ or mastery of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning.
  • Highly proficient in both English and Chinese, to facilitate effective delivery of Chinese language trainings.
  • Experience in Teaching Chinese as a second language will be an added advantage.
