Job Summary

  • This role covers 3 main areas of responsibility,
  • developing and driving PIL’s global corporate sustainability goals,
  • strategic development of and daily procurement of fuel and lubes for the PIL fleet,
  • driving decarbonisation efforts across on land and in the fleet
  • The delivery of these responsibilities is through the management of 2 distinct departments (Global Sustainability and ESG and Marine Fuels and Services) and the ability to leverage synergies between them.
  • The candidate will require very strong stakeholder management skills to align the various operating divisions and regional offices in PIL so as to enable the implementation of corporate sustainability efforts.
  • In addition, the candidate should be familiar with global regulatory requirements as well as local regulators of marine fuels so as to adequately overcome the challenges of the ongoing fuels transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sustainability
  • Manage the Global Sustainability and ESG (‘GSE’) department which is a corporate function responsible for overseeing group sustainability strategy and implementation
  • Responsible for improving PIL’s Ecovadis performance and ratings
  • Monitor relevant developments of various IMO, international and national regulations that impact group’s environmental, social and governance obligations and determine impact on PIL
  • Develop strategy and implement tactical initiatives to ensure the group’s long term, sustainable operations
  • Align and manage internal and external stakeholders globally to ensure effective roll-out of ESG initiatives
  • Initiate, drive and coordinate global community uplifting efforts across the group to amplify PIL’s impact in the communities we serve
  • Marine Fuels
  • Manage the Marine Fuels and Services (‘MFS’) department responsible for the procurement and fulfilment of fuel, lubricants and other related supporting services
  • Develop fuel strategy considering vessel trading profile, bunkering hubs and prices of various fuels
  • Engage regulators to understand, support and advocate for improvements to the supply and operations of conventional as well as low emissions alternative fuel
  • Negotiate and secure reliable and cost-effective fuel and lubricants supply for all PIL services
  • Develop, maintain and enforce procedures for ensuring fuel quality and quantity
  • Ensure all other related services (e.g. sludge management, water replenishment, lab tests, fuel forensics invetigations) are carried out in a timely manner
  • Provide inputs in the review of newbuilding design as well as charter agreements specific to fuel efficiency and emissions
  • Operationalise the adoption of lower emission alternative fuels for dual fuel vessels being delivered into the fleet
  • Decarbonisation
  • Monitor IMO and international/regional/local regulations on emissions and other issues which impact the group’s ability to deliver sustainable shipping operations
  • Maintain and update the group’s decarbonisation roadmap to 2050 and translate this into strategy scenarios for the purpose of supporting fleet renewal and deployment decision making
  • Explore, advice and drive the adoption of Energy Efficient Technologies in the existing fleet and newbuildings
  • Evaluate various lower emission alternative fuel options and the economics, technical as well as operation considerations for implementation in the fleet
  • Develop design concepts for alternative fuel vessel as well as refine newbuilding designs to ensure cost effective dual fuel operations for the trades PIL operate in

Requirements

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree with a strong track record in at least two or more of the below:
  • Sustainability project strategy and/or implementation
  • Fuels, maritime or port operations and/or management
  • Corporate or regulatory functions in an international-facing industry
  • Management consultancy
  • Strong leadership and management capabilities with experience in leading cross-functional teams and influencing senior leadership.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience
