Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and technically adept Bunker Trader to join our trading and sustainability team. This role is ideal for someone with proven expertise in navigating the complexities of bunker fuel trading, managing key accounts, and driving operational efficiency within the bunkering sector. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to develop overseas bunker markets, forge long-term client relationships, and negotiate high-value contracts that align with market trends and company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales and Operations Management: Oversee end-to-end bunker sales and operations for key marine clients, ensuring seamless coordination between supply, delivery logistics, and client requirements. Streamline processes to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Market Development: Spearhead the strategic expansion of the international bunker trading portfolio. Devise and execute market entry and penetration strategies to drive volume growth and expand the client base in competitive maritime hubs.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead complex negotiations and renegotiations of sales and purchase agreements with shipowners, charterers, and physical suppliers. Secure commercially favorable terms through deep market insight and structured risk management, maximizing contract profitability and long-term value.
- Executive Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive trading performance analyses, pricing strategies, and market intelligence reports to senior management. Deliver insights to support strategic planning, risk evaluation, and margin optimization.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a central point of contact between internal departments (e.g., operations, finance, risk) and external stakeholders, including clients, port agents, and suppliers. Ensure transparent communication, operational alignment, and high service standards across the bunker trading value chain.
Job Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Industry Experience: Extensive experience in sales and operations within the ship bunkering sector, with a proven track record of managing large-scale projects and achieving significant financial impact.
- Technical Skills: Strong technical proficiency in supply chain logistics and market analysis.
- Negotiation Expertise: Advanced negotiation skills with substantial experience in high-value contract management.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver detailed technical reports and presentations.
- Language Proficiency: TOEIC score of 800 or higher, demonstrating strong English language proficiency.
Preferred Skills
- Experience & Functional Expertise: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in the ship bunkering sector. Proven expertise in strategic sales, operations, and key account management within the energy or fuel industries.
- Market Development & Commercial Growth: Lead the development of emerging bunker markets. Achieve substantial commercial growth within a 12-month period through a high-impact initiative.
- Contract Management & Strategic Negotiation: Directly responsible for the negotiation or renegotiation of long-term, high-value fuel supply agreements. Experience working with multinational industry players or equivalent corporate energy stakeholders.
- Executive & Board-Level Support: Hold a formal support role to Board Members, Commissioners, or C-suite Executives, involving preparation of strategic presentations and reports, executive meeting coordination, and stakeholder engagement. High-level interdepartmental and external communications.
- Regional Sales Leadership: Oversee multi-region fuel sales operations across complex, cross-jurisdictional markets. Demonstrate consistent double-digit year-over-year growth, with strategic oversight of territory performance.
- Technical Advisory: Early-career experience delivering technical training and advisory services on fuel products, safety, and handling protocols to industrial clients. Provide client-facing solutions and post-sales support in a technical capacity.
