- Plan, develop and execute strategic projects with shipping industry stakeholders such as SRS owners, classification societies and shipyards to facilitate adoption of zero or near zero emissions fuels / technologies and green ship designs (e.g. participate in HAZID/HAZOP risk assessments, optimise vessel designs) and digital technologies (e.g. incorporate cybersecurity, maritime autonomous surface ships and electronic data exchange technologies in ship operations and with stakeholders)
- Monitor global trends and developments affecting international shipping with a view to develop or enhance national maritime policies
- Review and promulgate domestic legislation and regulations to ensure Singapore's compliance with key international shipping conventions by relevant International Organisations (e.g. International Maritime Organization (IMO)) concerning safety and security of ships and marine pollution prevention
- Evaluate and provide policy recommendations on the potential accession / ratification of international shipping conventions and treaties (e.g. HNS Convention, Hong Kong Convention)
- Represent Singapore at key international, regional and bilateral forums, including meetings of the IMO and engagements / conferences with foreign governments, to contribute to technical discussions and safeguard Singapore's maritime interests
- Engage and cultivate stakeholders from government authorities, industry bodies and labour groups to gather insights, strengthen partnerships and drive alignment on international shipping policy
