Job Description

The Head of School should possess the following attributes:

Core Responsibility

The Head of School, in a collaborative effort with a team of senior leaders, guides the overall health and prosperity of the school, especially providing leadership to the academic and administrations functions of the campus, developing a clear mission and vision, and ensuring smooth operations.

The Head of School has overall responsibility for the daily management of all aspects of the school, including academic and administrative matters, as well as all matters concerning students, faculty and staff. Working Relationships & Accountability

The Head of School reports to the Country Director, with respect to all matters pertaining to the daily administration of the school. This encompasses the safeguarding and wellbeing of students and staff, in addition to the logistical operations intrinsic to the school's function. They work closely with and are accountable to the Senior Academic Head of Global Schools for all academic programs (and relevant policies).

Leadership

  • Uphold school's mission, vision, core values, and implement policies, procedures and processes to achieve strategic goals;
  • Lead the senior management team of the school in ensuring a safe learning environment where every student is supported in achieving their best;
  • Leads the Academic and Non-Academic functions;
  • Designs and delivers annual Academic priorities and organizational strategies in line with the organization's business plan;
  • Mentor and monitor teaching and learning practices and results, and where needed, timely interventions for curricular and pedagogical corrections;
  • Ensures the highest standards for teaching and learning;
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff;
  • Attend and present at the Academic Board Meetings.

Financial

  • Works closely with the COO and Country Director on the forecasting and budgeting process;
  • Discusses the previous years data to determine trends and makes predictions for the current year in terms of potential enrollments numbers and the various expenses, such as Human Resources, facilities, projects, academic resourcing;
  • Provides inputs to the staffing budget to ensure learning standards is not be compromised.

Functional

Strategic:

  • Identifies and communicates key goals and performance indicators, setting measurable targets to evaluate staff performance.
  • Develops, monitors, and reviews strategic plans and processes to effectively utilize expertise, talent, and resources for the campus.
  • Liaises with the school leadership team regarding school initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership in strategic planning and growth of the school, including student and staff retention, improving academic results in external examinations, and identifying non-academic revenue generation streams.
  • Helps create a data-driven culture at the school and supervises and appraises the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Reviews succession plans for Heads of Departments/Coordinators.

Academic Operations:

  • Oversees the school's academic programs, including Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education, International Baccalaureate, etc.
  • Strategically plans the academic year, covering recruitment needs, allocation of academic resources, curriculum implementation, and teacher/staff professional development.
  • Evaluates and progressively develops academic programs on campus, ensuring the well-being of students, teachers, and staff within the school's programs.
  • Shares and monitors curriculum documents with staff and provides progress reports to the Senior Academic Head and Country Coordinator.
  • Provides reports and findings to the Senior Academic Head regarding Academic Quality Assurance.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Academic Head and Country Coordinator to reflect on and address issues arising from the quality assurance process, including student achievements, results, and feedback.
  • Identifies areas for improvement based on the quality assurance process.
  • Supports teachers to enhance their teaching capabilities and instructional techniques.

Academic Operations:

  • Evaluates the relevancy and effectiveness of teaching programs in relation to the development of students cognitive, physical, aesthetic, social, moral, and leadership capabilities.
  • Formally observes each teacher at least once a year for mentorship and appraisal purposes.
  • Ensures school accreditations are maintained and that all work complies with the policies and procedures set by organizations such as the IBO, CIE, CIS, etc.

Non-Academic Operations:

  • Ensures all safety measures are in place to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Fosters an environment where staff feel valued, supported, and perform to their full potential.
  • Collaborates with the Admissions Office on admission decisions.
  • Works with the Admissions Head to increase admission numbers and strengthen the campus's reputation.

Responsibilities of the Head of School:

  • Attend and/or present at all Open House events for prospective parents.
  • Contribute one article to be published in the school's newsletter each month.
  • Attend all important school meetings and events to support the team.
  • Participate in and/or lead school improvement committees.
  • Adhere to the IT Acceptable User Policy (AUP) and Network Policy (see attached).
  • Maintain a smart casual standard of dress as outlined in the school's dress code.
