Job Summary

In Morning Star Community Services, we seek to create an environment of warmth and safety for the individuals we work closely with. He/she is responsible for supporting day-to-day operations and ensuring the smooth execution of programmes.

The ASPIRE Programme Mentor effectively creates a secure and quality care environment for primary school aged children and youth. He/She creates a secure environment for children and youth through enhancing trusting and respectful relationships with them. He/She enriches children’s learning of values through co-designing and implementing developmentally and culturally and age-appropriate curriculum while providing support to them.

The Mentor is proactive and intentional in strengthening partnerships with families and collaborates with his/her team members to achieve this goal.

Key responsibility areas

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and supervise children and youth enrolled in the ASPIRE Programmes from weekday afternoon to evening (1 pm to 9pm)
  • Assist in coordinating, and implementing the activities and programmes for children and youth, through nurturing engagement and interaction in the daily routines of the children and youth under our care
  • Befriend, coach and mentor children and youth using positive discipline method

Programme Execution & Delivery

  • Plan learning lessons and activities to support the students’ Social-Emotional Learning
  • Coach and facilitate group learning sessions for Primary school students and teens
  • Apply appropriate classroom management strategies that facilitate the implementation of the curriculum while enabling observation and documentation of children’s learning

Stakeholder Management

  • Interact with family members or caregivers regarding the development of the children and youth where necessary
  • Utilize tact, diplomacy and courtesy when interacting with team members, clients and/or stakeholders
  • Escalate queries or requests to seniors and superiors
  • Maintain good relationships with team members, clients and/or stakeholders

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimally 'O' Level / ‘A’ Level / ITE
  • Candidates without experience are welcome to apply
  • Professionals looking to transition into a new career path are also welcome to apply

Experience

  • 1 – 2 years of experience in similar roles preferred
  • Ability and passion to work with children and youth
  • Possess a sense of responsibility towards the care of our clients (children, youth and their caregivers)
  • Proficient in CASEL’s Social-emotional competency framework and some training and proficiency in Visual Art are added advantages

Other Requirements

We also seek candidates who have the following skills:

  • Able to work collaboratively with others, and contribute to teamwork.
  • Possess interpersonal skills allowing efficient communication with others to achieve mutual consensus and outcomes.
  • Able to detect and decipher the emotions of others to manage interpersonal relationships in work situations.
  • Possess a service-oriented mindset to commit to meeting the needs of internal and external clients
