You will support MSE and Singapore's Chief Negotiator for Climate Change in the coordination and formulation of Singapore's negotiating strategies and positions on climate change and sustainable development and work to safeguard and advance Singapore's interests at international and regional fora. This includes representing Singapore as part of the inter-agency climate negotiating team's participation in the UNFCCC climate change conferences, G20 meetings and other relevant climate meetings. Within the inter-agency climate negotiating team, you will oversee issues under the adaptation and loss & damage tracks, and coordinate and formulate positions to safeguard and advance Singapore's interests under both these tracks.What you will be working on:
  • Positioning Singapore as an active and constructive global citizen in support of global efforts to address climate change. • Coordinating Singapore's negotiating strategies and positions on climate change and sustainable development, in close consultation with the relevant divisions within MSE and other agencies • Leading the inter-agency negotiations on adaptation and Loss and Damage at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conferences of the Parties (UNFCCC COPs) and other international meetings, e.g. G20 • Coordinating preparations for and staffing of Ministerial visits, including the participation of MSE Political Office Holders' participation in climate-related international meetings • Supporting MSE's engagement with other bilateral and regional/international partners, and international and non-governmental organisations to strengthen cooperation and advance global climate action
What we are looking for:
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline. • At least 5-8 years of working experience, preferably with some involvement in international relations and multilateral/UN work • Strong interest in climate change and sustainable development issues • Excellent proficiency in the English language, both verbal and written, and ability to articulate and convey ideas/arguments cogently and persuasively • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Good inter-personal and networking skills to foster effective and enduring collaborations and partnerships • Independent, operationally steadfast and resourceful
