Job Summary:
The Props Master supports the Art Department in bringing the visual world of the film to life. Working closely with the Production Designer and Art Director, the Props Master helps execute design plans through hands-on work in set dressing, props, research, sourcing materials, and general production tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, construction, and dressing of sets according to the production's visual direction.
- Source, purchase, or rent props, furniture, and dressing materials.
- Prepare and maintain the organization of the art department workspace and inventory.
- Support set decoration and styling during filming, including continuity tracking.
- Conduct research for visual references and historical accuracy as needed.
- Assist with set teardown and returns at the end of the shoot.
- Help manage the art department budget by tracking expenses and receipts.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., props, wardrobe, lighting) to ensure visual consistency.
Qualifications:
- Background in film, fine arts, theatre design, or a related field.
- Strong aesthetic sense and attention to detail.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
- Basic knowledge of tools, materials, and construction techniques.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, 3D software or similar design software (preferred).
- Familiarity with budgeting and tracking software is a plus.
- Must be adaptable, resourceful and a great communicator.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (often required for errands and sourcing).
