Roles & Responsibilities

1. Role Summary:

Reporting to the PVC and President, the Director of Learning and Teaching is a role within Curtin Singapore with responsibility for the implementation of the University’s learning and teaching strategy across Curtin Singapore and oversight of the development and delivery of education programs, quality assurance and continuous improvement processes across Curtin Singapore.

The Director of Learning and Teaching will work with key stakeholders across Curtin Singapore and Curtin University to contribute to the development of strategies relating to innovations in learning and teaching practices and programs across Curtin Singapore.

2. Key Responsibility Areas:

Leadership

  • Work with the PVC and President as part of Curtin Singapore Leadership Team (CSLT) to contribute to the formulation, implementation and ongoing review of the strategic, academic and business plans of Curtin Singapore in support of its learning and teaching strategy.
  • Provide leadership within Curtin Singapore to create and maintain a positive, productive and supportive culture in the context of Curtin values and Navitas values.
  • In consultation with the PVC and President, plan, develop and implement Curtin Singapore’s learning and teaching priorities and targets in support of its strategic KPIs.
  • Lead the development of education initiatives aligned with Curtin Singapore’s strategic priorities.
  • Lead the “Pedagogy” research cluster as part of Curtin Singapore’s research ecosystem.

Management

  • Provide oversight and high-level management of Curtin Singapore’s education product pipeline and portfolio, including the development of business cases and accreditation proposals, change proposals, implementation planning and compliance with Curtin University and Curtin Singapore academic governance requirements.
  • Provide oversight and high-level management of the planning, scheduling and delivery of Curtin Singapore’s education programs ensuring operational efficiencies and alignment with the University timelines and procedures.
  • Coordinate across Curtin Singapore’s academic and student processes including academic credit, work-integrated learning, assessment management, result approvals and academic progress processes.

Quality and Compliance

  • Monitor and coordinate the University’s learning and teaching quality assurance processes within Curtin Singapore.
  • Coordinate the University’s course review and improvement processes across Curtin Singapore and ensure that reports and action plans are developed and implemented as required.
  • Establish an evidence-based culture to academic quality within Curtin Singapore that is grounded in academic performance data including student survey results and graduate outcomes data.
  • Lead programs that enrich the student experience, minimise student attrition and improve graduate employability across Curtin Singapore.
  • Promote and oversee the application of academic integrity policies and practices across Curtin Singapore’s education programs.

Innovation and Change

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development of Curtin Singapore’s innovative teaching, digital technologies and educational scholarship initiatives.
  • As part of Curtin Singapore’s Leadership Team, lead and drive change through staff development and engagement programs to build the capability of the academic team to deliver on Curtin Singapore’s strategic vision and plans.
  • Work with the academic services teams in the development and planning of Curtin Singapore’s innovation and change initiatives and programs.

Engagement

  • Build and maintain positive ongoing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the development and reputation of Curtin Singapore’s educational activities and programs.
  • Assist the PVC and President, and Heads of Schools in the development and review of productive articulation pathway arrangements and other domestic and international academic partnerships.
  • Represent Curtin Singapore at external forums when required and directed by the PVC and President, and participate in cross-university projects, meetings and working groups as appropriate.
  • Build productive relationships with students to encourage their active participation in the design and review of education programs and learning experiences.

Other

  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required and directed by the PVC and President.

3. Reporting, Committees, and Support

  • The Director of Learning and Teaching reports to the PVC and President of Curtin Singapore for the responsibilities of this role. Teaching and research workloads for this role are set by the relevant Head of School.
  • The Director of Learning and Teaching will be a member of the Curtin Singapore Leadership Team and will chair the appropriate learning and teaching committees. The Director of Learning and Teaching will also work closely with other academic leadership roles across Curtin Singapore. The Director of Learning and Teaching liaises with a broad range of stakeholders across the university including Faculty Deans of Learning and Teaching, and Heads of Schools at Curtin Singapore.

4. Qualifications and Selection Criteria

  • PhD in a related discipline.
  • A desire to assume leadership responsibility with a strong commitment to quality, innovation, continuous improvement and strategic alignment.
  • Experience in higher education teaching and curriculum development including a record of successful coordination, innovation and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and engage academic staff across learning innovation, program design and development and strategic change initiatives.
  • Understanding of the University’s academic policies and procedures, particularly program accreditation, quality assurance and continuous improvement processes.
  • Experience in leading and contributing to collaborative cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral teams and providing learning and teaching leadership and expertise that contributes to improved student outcomes, experience and personal development.
  • A thorough understanding of the higher education regulatory environment in Singapore.
  • Demonstrated a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to manage various stakeholder interests and expectations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
