Roles and Responsibilities

1. The role of a school counsellor is important to help students navigate their educational journey and personal growth, and provide the support they need to succeed both academically and emotionally. Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one counselling support for students’ mental health and social-emotional development
  • Working with staff and students in providing direct crisis interventions
  • Referring students and their families to community resources or external professionals where needed
  • Conferencing with staff, parents and external professionals/agencies on students being counselled
  • Maintaining confidential case consultation records
  • Planning and conducting training for staff on pertinent mental health issues and skills for first-line intervention and support
  • Developing and conducting small and large group psycho-educational sessions for students on mental health issues and coping strategies
  • Developing and/or making available mental health resources for students, parents and staff
  • Preparing counselling statistics/ data for reporting to senior management and government agencies

2. Provide secondary support for in-house student events and activities such as Orientation, Convocation and other ad hoc activities

3. Perform any other ad hoc duties as assigned

Requirements

1. Minimum Master’s Degree in Counselling

2. At least 3 years of working experience in counselling work involving youths and adults.

3. Must have a flair, understanding and patience to work with students

4. Good interpersonal and communication skills

5. Familiar with MS Office software and must be IT savvy
