Job Description:
Professor in Health Equity, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH), National University of Singapore (NUS), is inviting applications for full-time Professor(s) on the tenure/research/practice track. For Professors on the tenure track, appointees are given fixed contracts for up to 3 years, with the goal of obtaining tenured appointments at the end of this period. In addition to an attractive salary and benefits package, new faculty members may be eligible for a start-up grant to initiate their independent stream of research and subsidised university accommodation.



The School is seeking to hire one or more Professor(s) in Health Equity dedicated to research on equity issues concerning health and healthcare, ideally those with experience in an Asian local context. In exceptional cases, candidates with expertise outside of Asia may be appointed if there is evidence of strong understanding and commitment to Asia health equity.

Job Descriptions

Objective
To provide evidence to influence and inform health policies and programs in order to reduce equity gaps that lead to disparities in health.


Area(s) of Focus
  • Understanding health disparities and contributing factors of marginalised and vulnerable populations
  • Providing evidence and guidance to inform policy and programming to eliminate inequities
  • Developing and testing social and/or technologically innovative solutions to eliminate health inequities

Responsibilities
  • Establishing and leading an independent research agenda through securing extramural funding.
  • Developing and participating in collaborative, multidisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Designing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in public health.
  • Supervising and advising postgraduate students.
  • Contributing to policy and community development efforts in the field of public health.


Requirements
  • A recognised Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline with a strong post-doctoral professional and/or academic record.
  • Proven track record of authorship of impactful dissemination material (e.g. policy paper, technical report, peer-reviewed journal article/commentary, monograph, book etc).
  • Recognition regionally or internationally as a thought leader and expert in the field.
  • Experience in leading independent research studies or components within larger research programmes, and/or developing, leading, implementing and evaluating projects and programmes.
  • Ability to generate and sustain an independent stream of research funding.
  • Ability to teach public health courses and supervise students at various levels (undergraduate, graduate and lifelong learners).
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work with and teach culturally diverse audiences.

Other requirements
In addition, candidates should have demonstrated experience and achievements in the following:
  • Networking links with international and local NGOs and Health and other relevant government ministries in ASEAN.
  • Prior experience and success working with international and local NGOs, governments and government bodies in ASEAN.
