Position Overview:

As Deputy General Manager - Bodywork Engineering, you will lead the end-to-end development and optimization of bodywork design for 2W & 3W including motorcycles and scooters. You will oversee Class A/B surfacing engineering, support supply chain strategy for bodywork tooling, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, design, and supply chain teams to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and aesthetically superior products.

This role demands deep expertise in body/surfacing design engineering, plastic and sheet metal bodywork development, and supplier collaboration for tooling and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the bodywork engineering team to drive innovative and manufacturable designs for motorcycles and Scooters.
  • Define the bodywork engineering roadmap, aligning with product development strategies for ASEAN business and TVS Motor’s global design philosophy.
  • Collaborate with TVS central design, R&D, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of aesthetic, functional, and performance requirements.

2. Bodywork Engineering & Design

  • Spearhead Class A/B surfacing engineering, ensuring high-precision, manufacturable designs for plastic and sheet metal bodywork for ASEAN.
  • Provide technical leadership in part design, tooling development, and supplier engagement for body panels, fairings, and structural components.
  • Implement DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFS (Design for Sustainability) best practices to optimize weight, strength, cost, and sustainability.

3. Supplier & Supply Chain Management

  • Oversee & Support end-to-end supply chain for bodywork tooling, working closely with local and global suppliers.
  • Ensure cost-effective, high-quality tooling development for the relevant products.
  • Negotiate with vendors and toolmakers to achieve the best balance of cost, quality, and lead time.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Execution

  • Work closely with Head- Project Management, engineering and Operations Teams to ensure seamless transition from design to mass production.
  • Support industrial design teams in achieving product styling objectives while ensuring manufacturability and durability.
  • Partner with testing and quality teams to improve structural integrity, aerodynamics, and thermal management of body components.

5. Team Development & Mentorship

  • Build and mentor a high-performing bodywork engineering team.
  • Implement best practices to enhance technical expertise and efficiency within the organization.
  • Establish knowledge-sharing frameworks to upskill teams on surfacing engineering, materials selection, and tooling.

Requirements:

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Work Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in bodywork engineering, Class A/B surfacing, and tooling development.
  • Prior leadership role in similar automotive OEMs.
  • Proven experience in developing bodywork from concept to production.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of plastics, composites, and sheet metal forming processes.
  • Knowledge of tools for surfacing and Class A modeling will be a plus.
  • Experience in supplier management and bodywork tooling strategies.

Soft Skills & Leadership:

  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
