Our products and services include advisory, financing, prime services, research and analysis, securities services, trading and sales and transaction banking.We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Director, HSBC Infrastructure Finance, Singapore – Export Finance.Overview of HSBC Infrastructure Finance – Export FinanceThe global HSBC Infrastructure Finance (“HIF”) team comprises Infrastructure Finance and Export Finance, together providing a full suite of financing solutions to corporates, financial sponsors, financial institutions and governments in a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, transport, logistics, renewables and power & utilities.The team provides a central point for clients to access product agnostic advice on financing, capital structure and structured debt capital markets, as well as origination and execution of infrastructure, project and export finance lending mandates. HIF plays a critical role in financing the energy transition for our clients and we have pivoted our business model, aiming to increase our provision of financing to key energy transition sub-sectors, to monetise the transition and deliver incremental revenue for the bank. HIF consists of over 160 employees located in 14 countries with key hubs in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York.The Export Finance team supports the cross-border trade of capital goods and services by HSBC’s clients using government supported programmes. These programmes are administered by Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) which credit enhance the financing provided to our borrowers. Export Finance is a global team with presence in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, along with several other locations in Europe and Asia including Japan, mainland China, and South Korea. The business is one of the world’s leading arrangers of ECA-supported debt with a long-established track-record.The Export Finance team works across product, regions, countries and sectors to arrange medium- and long-term financing for clients in the public and private sectors purchasing capital goods and services or investing in a particular region. Export Finance can cover, inter alia, infrastructure development, manufacturing equipment, marine assets, aircraft, power generation equipment, real estate and a host of other goods and services. Export Finance also features regularly in the financing of limited-recourse projects, as an additional source of funding alongside commercial bank loans. Specifically, HIF Singapore is supporting HSBC’s international and domestic clients to finance their investments across ASEAN, India and Bangladesh in a diverse range of sectors with a strong focus on sustainable or transition infrastructure. The Export Finance team sits with and is collaborating closely with the Infrastructure Finance team to deliver non-recourse project financing solution to HSBC’s clients in the region.Job purposeAs a Director in the Export Finance team, you will have responsibility for the origination and execution of agency-supported financing in South Asia, and report to the Regional Head of the APAC business.
With the roll-out of the HIF growth plan, and the refinement of the global strategy, there is also the possibility of further career progression in terms of wider responsibilities in the region.
You will work closely with the global team across all sub-sectors and borrower profiles, including, sovereign, corporate and limited-recourse project finance. You will work closely with the global Export Finance team, relationship managers, product partners, ECAs and borrowers to originate, structure and arrange agency-supported financing for our clients.Principle ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing a strategy to grow the Export Finance business in South Asia, including delivery of all financial, capital, risk, resourcing and operational objectives.
  • Driving client and agency (ECA, DFI, MLAs, etc) engagement across South Asia, with responsibility for origination to execution and subsequent portfolio management.
  • Exhibiting leadership attributes, managing a team of VP(s), and junior resource to deliver the best outcomes for our clients.
  • Acting with a level of autonomy in both origination and execution to seek out and pitch for new opportunities with HSBC’s current and prospective clients.
  • Ensuring the South Asian Export Finance business is conducted within the risk and compliance framework for the business, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s policies, procedures, and values.
RequirementsSkills, Experience and Qualification
  • Detailed understanding and demonstrable industry experience of the ECA, MLA, and DFI finance market.
  • Established track record of originating, structuring, and executing agency-supported financings.
  • Strong business communication and analytical skills, including in respect of credit and reputational risk.
  • Vision, capability and energy to devise and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner with key stakeholders and senior management.
  • Superior organisational skills, and experience in working with a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to guide environmental, social and governance considerations related to transactions.
  • Close familiarity with alternative financing structures and market themes.
  • Proficiency in English – spoken and written (business level) essential. Fluency in a second regional or international language would be preferred.
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate education would be preferred.
