The Department of Surgery is a dynamic department heavily involved in research and education, with areas of interest including surgical oncology and therapeutics aimed at the targeted therapy of various cancers, including colorectal cancer. Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.Purpose of the postThe Research Assistant will assist the PI in setting up the aforementioned project, and will be involved in basic and advanced cell culture and molecular biology techniques. The Research Assistant will work closely with other members of the lab.The RA will receive regular direct supervision by the PI. While prior experience working in a laboratory environment would be valuable for this position, this is not critical, as specific molecular biology techniques will be taught by the PI. The RA must however have an interest in the molecular underpinnings of cancer, and have an inquisitive mind and a can-do personality.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of the RA will be to: * Oversee the experiments relating to the project;
- Keep an accurate and contemporaneous log of the experimental procedures attempted as part of the project;
- Ensure regular upkeep of laboratory stock lists and equipment;
- Work towards the publication of experimental work in scientific journals;
- Maintain a safe working environment;
- Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.
- Have a first degree in biology, the life sciences, or in a related field with good results
- be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail;
