We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Automation/Integration Engineer to join us and play a key role in developing and deploying robust, cost-effective automation and integration solutions within a dynamic research environment. Situated in the Computational Sciences team, this role bridges software development, laboratory informatics, and scientific workflows, collaborating closely with wet-lab scientists and computational experts to streamline laboratory operations and enhance research efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate, propose, and implement cost-effective automation and integration solutions that connect laboratory informatics systems, automated storage platforms, and robotic liquid-handling equipment.
Develop custom scripts and API-based integrations to automate laboratory workflows, including sample management, compound inventory management, and assay preparation.
Engage closely with wet-lab scientists and computational scientists/engineers to clearly understand, interpret, and translate laboratory workflows and experimental needs into effective automated solutions.
Provide technical leadership in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving integration issues, ensuring robust data flow and system reliability.
Maintain comprehensive documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for integration workflows, clearly communicating technical details to scientific users and computational staff.
Leverage modern AI-driven coding tools to streamline development, enhance accuracy, and accelerate delivery of integration projects.

Requirements:
Bachelor?s or Master?s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Automation Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related disciplines.
At least 2-3 years of experience in laboratory automation, software integration, or related engineering roles.
Demonstrable proficiency in scripting languages (Python, SQL), API development, and RESTful integrations.
Effective communication skills with proven ability to collaborate successfully with interdisciplinary teams, including wet-lab scientists, computational scientists, and engineers.
Experience with laboratory informatics platforms, automated storage hardware, and robotic liquid handling equipment.
Preferred: Familiarity with open-source automation platforms (e.g., KNIME, Apache Airflow, SiLA2) and knowledge of commercial middleware solutions.
Preferred: Previous experience designing and implementing complex laboratory automation workflows without relying on commercial middleware.
