Job Purpose

Lead the legal and compliance function for Lockton’s operation in Singapore. You will work to identify, articulate and manage legal and regulatory risk to the business in relation to its commercial commitments and other relevant matters. This will involve providing legal and regulatory advice to an array of internal clients and managing Lockton’s regulatory relationships.

Key Tasks & Duties and Measurements

  • Advising and working closely with the business to provide a pro-active service on a range of legal issues including, but not limited to, insurance agreements, general contracts, supply agreements, IP, Privacy, NDA’s, TOBAs, File Transfer Forms and BORs, Bank/Broker Comfort Letters, fee service agreements, outsourcing agreements and SLAs, and general business law (see below).
  • Keeping up to date on and advising the business on changes in the law and the applicable regulatory framework.
  • Advising on employee related matters including those related to restrictive covenants.
  • Assisting in the drafting of policies and procedures and training materials and delivering training to business units.
  • Act as a legal intermediary between the business and external counsel.
  • Assisting in the general queries that arise in the business, including potentially contentious matters.
  • Advising on regulatory matters including queries relating to licensing.
  • Managing matters where it may involve a claim against the professional indemnity insurance of the business.
  • Monitor and manage Lockton Singapore’s compliance with regulatory requirements under the applicable laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Enhance and manage policies, systems, and processes to counter the risks of Lockton Singapore’s involvement in money laundering, terrorism financing, weapons proliferation and sanctions evasion, bribery, corruption, and filing of Suspicious Transactions Reports (STRs).
  • Communicate relevant new and updated regulatory requirements to impacted departments on a timely basis.
  • Localise and implement Lockton International corporate policies, governance programmes and relevant initiatives.
  • Perform periodic compliance reviews.
  • Lead and coach junior staff in compliance-related tasks, guiding them in resolving complex issues through close collaboration with the Head of LRCS Asia.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience in the financial services industry (preferably insurance).
  • Knowledge of regulatory framework and compliance issues relevant to general insurance and reinsurance broking.
  • Experience dealing with regulators.

Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor with Law degree
  • 4-6 years of experience in a major law firm or relevant in-house environment

  • Proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
