Key Responsibilities:

  1. Trading & Business Development:
  • Develop and execute physical trades in Iron Ore & Metallics markets with a focus on non-India sourcing.
  • Ensure accuracy of trades and positions in relevant trading systems.
  • Draft business proposals and contracts while collaborating with Legal and Compliance teams on commercial terms.
  • Work closely with the Trade Operations Team on daily operational matters such as LC, LOI, shipping, and logistics.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including suppliers, buyers, and counterparties, to establish strong trading relationships.
  • Conduct domestic and international visits for business discussions and negotiations.
  • Identify and develop new customers and suppliers while maintaining existing relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Market Risk and Credit, to adhere to internal control requirements.
  1. Market Intelligence & Analysis:
  • Research and analyse industry developments, supply-demand dynamics, and pricing trends using various sources.
  • Provide regular market reports and insights to internal stakeholders.
  • Create business and financial reports as required.
  • Understand and apply accounting principles relevant to transactions.
  1. Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, trade regulations, and international compliance requirements.
  • Operate within designated business frameworks and assigned trading limits.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting documents for internal control and audit purposes.
  • Coordinate with Legal and Compliance teams for counterparty registration (KYC, AML, etc.).
  • Prepare and manage Security Trade Control documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Accounting for accurate accounting treatments.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 8-10 years of experience in global trading of iron ore with a proven track record of minimum 1 Million MT per annum.
  • Industry Network: Well-established relationships with suppliers and buyers in various global markets, excluding India.
  • Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of iron ore and metal scrap commodities, value chain, and pricing mechanisms.
  • Trade Operations: In-depth knowledge of international trading practices, L/C, trade finance, security trade control, and compliance.
  • Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Ability to assess market conditions, analyse data, and make informed trading decisions.
  • Financial Acumen: Familiarity with paper markets, hedging strategies, and book position management.
  • Negotiation & Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to secure competitive deals.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Mandarin and English is required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Location: Based in China with a willingness to travel internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing physical and futures markets.
  • Knowledge of macroeconomic, cultural, and political factors impacting the global iron ore market.
  • Ability to navigate international trade compliance and regulatory frameworks effectively.
