Lab and Equipment Support Officer
The incumbent will provide support to the Department of Physics' Core Facilities. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -
1. Assist the core facility manager in maintaining various central departmental equipment and facilities including analytical equipment such as the SEM and AFM. This involves basic troubleshooting and repairs where necessary.
2. Assist the core facility manager in communicating with vendors and users, arranging for training, and maintaining a user list.
3. Maintain the core facility booking system and address any booking issues.
4. To be involved in departmental safety activities, as part of the committee, including but not limited to licensing and developing standard operating procedures and conducting risk assessments.
5. Assist in departmental administration duties as assigned by Professors and Senior Managers. Duties will include assisting in the various lab-based teaching activities of the department, as well as outreach activities.
Qualifications
• Possess two to three years of relevant work experience. Those with no experience are also welcome to apply.
• The successful candidate is expected to have a basic level of technical knowledge and be comfortable with taking apart and fixing things. He/she must be interested in working in an education, research and laboratory environment.
• Experience and familiarity with operations and safety standards in the laboratory will be useful.
