Job Summary:

The Science Communicator of the Conservation & Science team plays an essential role in ensuring that the Singapore Oceanarium’s work to advance marine conservation, research, animal welfare and population sustainability is well-documented and shared with stakeholders in Singapore and the region. This role requires a broad understanding of biodiversity conservation and sustainability to provide the perspective required to position the Singapore Oceanarium well in the local and international conservation community. The role requires a keen eye for storytelling, an ability to translate scientific content into accessible language, as well as communication and organisation skills to thrive in an exciting and dynamic environment. As S.E.A. Aquarium transitions to the upcoming Singapore Oceanarium, the Science Communicator will be key to promoting the Oceanarium as an aquarium-based conservation institution. The Science Communicator will work closely with the Lifesciences departments, and the Brand Management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a content library of the Conservation & Science team’s work – encompassing key happenings, highlights, achievements, events and programmes.
  • Shadow the Conservation & Science team to understand their scopes of work.
  • Act as the liaison with the various Singapore Oceanarium and RWS branding and communications teams, to ensure that all content positions the Singapore Oceanarium well in the conservation community.
  • Write articles, posts, captions and public-facing reports for the Conservation & Science team, and the wider Life Sciences departments where necessary.
  • Produce content for pitch decks, infographics and posters that represent the Conservation & Science team’s work and the wider Life Sciences departments where necessary.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in nature communications in the field of marine biology, aquatic science, or a related discipline.
  • Must have some background in life sciences.
  • Science communication, copy writing, copy editing.
  • Comfortable in the field of coastal/marine environments.
  • Graphic design skills (Photoshop, Canva, Indesign etc.) preferred.
  • Photography, videography and editing skills preferred.
