Job Summary

The incumbent will assist the Technician-In-Charge (TIC) in managing the administrative/technical activities in the laboratory. He/she shall also support laboratory teaching classes and equipment operation, to achieve smooth functioning of research/teaching activities in the laboratory, while ensuring that safety complies with school policy and legal requirements.

The duties include: -
  • Assist TIC in managing the lab operations.
  • Support laboratory teaching classes, for full-time and part-time undergraduate students.
  • Conduct/review risk assessment, safe work procedures and standard operating procedures for lab activities.
  • Manage chemical/gas inventory, and ensure proper documentation, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
  • Ensure compliance and safe equipment operation of non-ionizing radiation in the laboratory.
  • Asset management and maintaining proper records for inventory auditing.
  • Procurement of consumables and equipment for lab operations.
  • Liaise with suppliers on timely equipment setup, repair and maintenance.
  • Manage security of laboratory's access and compliance of house rules.
  • Ensure good laboratory housekeeping and safe laboratory practices.
  • Appointment in Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee, Staff Welfare Committee.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the reporting officer and school management


Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Chemical engineering or related discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in operation of general lab equipment.
  • Experience and knowledge in risk management, workplace safety and health, including ISO 45001.
  • Experience in handling and management of chemicals and hazardous substances (FM, HS, EP).
  • Knowledge on local regulatory requirements (SCDF, SPF, NEA, MOM, etc.) for storing and handling regulated chemicals.
  • Experience in management of non-ionising irradiating apparatus and pressure vessels.
  • Experience in procurement process.
  • Experience in Emergency Response Team is a plus.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
