National University Health System (NUHS) is looking for a Deputy Director to lead, strategize, direct, manage and develop innovation projects for the cluster. The incumbent needs to direct and help researchers develop and scope their projects to be more commercial focused and lead them in licensing their innovations to third parties or staring a spin off company.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide leadership and direction to the team and PIs in clinical innovation. These innovation projects involve the development of solutions from ideation to human trials.
- Proactively identify, build and maintain good relationships with all stakeholders especially within the NUS/NUHS research community, other academics, industry/venture partners, funding agencies, potential licensees and early-stage investors.
- Provide mentorship to the team to evaluate the commercialisation potential of newly disclosed healthcare technology and solutions and develop a strategy to commercialise the technologies.
- Identify and manage translation projects to raise the Technology Readiness Level and play a leadership role in structuring technology development as well as negotiating license agreements.
- Oversee and manage the grant portfolio related to innovation development.
- Provide guidance in all contractual matters with commercial companies to ensure NUHS’s interests are serve and compliance requirements are met with risks mitigated.
- Provide leadership in developing skillsets in diverse aspects of health technology businesses
- Degree or Postgraduate degree, preferably in Biomedical / Life Sciences and Engineering, as well as other Degree holders with relevant experience welcomed to apply.
- 15-20 years of relevant experience in Innovation Activities including (1) Technology/Product Development (2) Protecting IP (3) Licensing / Commercialisation activities (4) Project Management, and (5) Initiating and developing new spinoffs and startups
- Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff.
- Able to work in a complex organisational environment, with a need to balance expectations of multiple stakeholders.
- Outstanding leadership capabilities, and a demonstrated track record of leadership.
- Possess strong analytical skills.
- Able to advise and lead negotiations in complex research, regulatory and contractual issues.
- Business development and marketing experience are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with healthcare practitioners, researchers, senior business executives and early-stage investors.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skill.
