Position: Legal Counsel

Working Location: Tampines

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm

Salary: Up to $5500, depending on experience and qualifications

Job Description

The Legal Counsel will report directly to the CEO, taking charge of all legal matters and providing support in compliance-related areas, including investigations and audits. You will collaborate with internal teams to address legal and regulatory concerns, secure necessary approvals, and safeguard the company’s business interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the company in dispute resolution and mediation proceedings.
  • Manage litigation cases in collaboration with external legal counsel when required.
  • Provide legal advice on corporate, regulatory, and commercial matters.
  • Oversee contract and agreement management, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
  • Serve as the organisation's Data Protection Officer (DPO), ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Take the lead in legal matters while supporting compliance functions such as audits and investigations, working closely with internal stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in legal and compliance issues, advising the CEO and internal teams on relevant matters.
  • Develop and review trade compliance training materials, conducting annual training sessions for both new and existing employees.
  • Support and drive various legal and compliance-related initiatives, projects, and policies.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Law
  • 3-5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) and admitted to the bar in a Commonwealth jurisdiction
  • Experience in the retail industry is an advantage
  • Knowledge or exposure to corporate legal compliance and regulations, including Singapore Customs, HSA, SPF, and SFA, is a plus
  • Experience in investigation techniques is an advantage
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Detail-oriented, highly meticulous, and able to meet deadlines with strong project management skills
  • Proactive and willing to learn new things
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
