Reporting to: Head of Certification

The Certification and Policy Research Officer will play a crucial role in supporting SEC's mission by conducting research, developing policies, and managing certification programmes. This position requires a strong understanding of environmental sustainability, policy analysis, and certification processes.

We are looking for an entry level candidate too, school leavers from Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering are invited to apply.

Job Description:

Environmental Certifications – Development Work

  • Development of new SGLS (Singapore Green Labelling Scheme) and Eco-Certification product criteria.
  • Development of training and assessment programs as part of SEC’s advisory work to assist organizations in their environmental sustainability journey.
  • Development of training and education programs on environmental sustainability.
  • Implementation of the above-mentioned programs for interested organizations.
  • Conducting periodic reviews of the above-mentioned programs.

Environmental Certifications – Evaluation Work

  • Evaluate applications against criteria set in SGLS and Eco-certifications.
  • Analyze data for relevant business situations and proactively evaluate, and address key business issues, drivers, and growth opportunities.
  • Maintain high standards of certification for SGLS Green Label products through on-site audits of forest management units.
  • Manage auditors in the assessment of eco-certification schemes.
  • Assist in supervising the implementation of policies and procedures related to environmental certifications.
  • Respond to complaints and appeals related to environmental certifications.

Advisory Projects & Policy Research

  • Conduct research on environmental policies, regulations, and best practices related to sustainability, with a focus on areas such as green procurement and eco-labelling.
  • Analyse data and information to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities in the field of environmental sustainability, providing insights to inform decision-making processes.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of green certification standards and criteria, ensuring alignment with international benchmarks and local contexts.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and research findings in the field of environmental sustainability, sharing insights and recommendations with the team.

Job Requirements

Qualification/Training:

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering (preferred), Environmental Science, Sustainability, Public Policy, or other relevant disciplines.

Experience/Skills:

  • Internship or project experience in environmental engineering or sustainability is a plus.
  • 1 to 3 years of working experience (fresh graduates with relevant knowledge are welcome to apply).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and regulations.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and environmental software tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
