About Our Group
Material Science Lab is part of the Research and Development facilities located in Shugart building to support all Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and some non-HDD material related selection, qualification, failure analysis, etc. The functions of the lab include performing material, coating and adhesive level selection, testing and qualification for HDDs, and performing component proactive qualifications for HDD programs. In addition, the lab is involved in advanced material development / selection. The lab also has multiple cross-site &/or cross-functional collaborations on various projects and areas of work.
About The Role - You Will
The analyst responsible for performing characterization / qualification of HDD component & material cleanliness. This role examines, develops, and refines test methods and techniques to address reliability issues, and develop solutions by applying chemistry / material science / engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
The position involves tackling non-routine problems of varied scope, and requires meticulous data analysis. The analyst typically receives minimal guidance on daily tasks and general instructions for new assignments. This is a career-focused, journey-level role that demands a high level of independence.
Utilize Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) / Energy Dispersive X-ray detector (EDX), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) and other analytical equipment to characterize material, perform cleanliness tests and to qualify the use of components & materials in Seagate HDDs, ensuring the suitability of such components & materials in Seagate HDDs.

Your Experience Includes
Job requires a Bachelor degree in Science (Chemistry) or Engineering (Chemical or Material Science). Preferable with relevant Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) / Energy Dispersive X-ray detector (EDX) &/or Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) experience (i.e., operation, troubleshooting or analysis).
