As a Laser Welding Systems Engineer at Molex Singapore, you will play a pivotal role in developing, optimizing, and executing laser welding applications to meet production and quality standards. Your expertise in IR/Green Lasers welders and process innovation will be crucial in driving manufacturing efficiency and quality, while also leading training initiatives and managing technicians to support operational excellence.

Join the DataCom and Specialty Solutions Division, where you will collaborate with diverse teams, including all internal departments, vendors, and suppliers. Your contributions will be integral to cross-functional collaboration, enhancing productivity and achieving project goals.

What You Will Do

1. Laser Welding Operations:

  • Program, operate, and maintain Laser Welders to ensure efficient and high-quality welding operations.
  • Develop and optimize welding process parameters for different materials and applications to achieve desired results.

2. Process Development and Optimization:
  • Conduct trials and feasibility studies to support the development of new laser welding techniques and products.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot welding issues to improve efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) to refine laser welding processes and establish robust parameters.

3. Quality Assurance:
  • Inspect welds for quality and compliance with specifications, using tools such as microscopes, tensile testing machines, and X-ray equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to develop and maintain welding standards and procedures.

4. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laser welding equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to welding equipment and processes promptly.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve welding-related issues.

5. Laser Setup and Buyoff:
  • Oversee laser setup and buyoff processes to ensure equipment readiness and compliance with project requirements.

6. Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Work closely with the engineering, production and quality teams to meet project timelines and objectives.
  • Document welding parameters, procedures, and results for knowledge sharing and future reference.

7. Training and Leadership:
  • Take charge of technicians and provide direction to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Train and mentor technicians and operators on laser welding best practices.
  • Conduct relevant training sessions for the team to enhance technical knowledge and operational efficiency.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, or relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in laser welding or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of laser welding principles, metallurgy, and materials science.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and welding specifications.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to conduct technical training sessions.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in Research & Development, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing fields, preferably with connector and/or cable process working experience.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and automation systems, and experience in conducting Design of Experiments (DOE) to refine processes.
  • Previous experience managing or supervising technicians and well-versed with Trumpf Laser welder equipment.
  • Demonstrates honesty, fairness, and respect in all interactions, adheres to company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards, and focuses on creating long-term value for the company, customers, and stakeholders.
