UWCSEA East Campus has a vacancy for a Head of Football to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Community Operations and Activities, the position is responsible for the in-house development and overall operation of the Football program for the College. Building a successful team within the College and providing excellent leadership to the football program by promoting the College mission and values including team integrity, reliability, and good sportsmanship at all times.
Main Responsibilities
- Full operational and team management of the Dragons Football Programme and the East Community Football Programme including parent liaison, health and safety risk management and facility management;
- Building a culture of excellence, innovation and learning that supports student-athlete development for the sport at UWCSEA East Campus and beyond.
- Maintain the personal conduct, appearance and discipline of team members and coaches that is appropriate for K1-12 athletic teams and reflects positively on the mission of the College.
- Actively promotes the Football program within the community.
- Practices good fiscal management for revenue generation and budget allocation for the program and adheres to College child safeguarding standards.
- Provides a planning framework for the development of engaging seasonal and sessional plans to teach skills and tactics, develop fitness and achieve competitive outcomes;
- Leads, delivers and creates tournaments, trips, camp programmes for football across the college.
- Delivers efficient operational outcomes for the full Football programme from curriculum requirements to weekend league tournaments;
- Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines set by governing bodies.
- Leads the recruitment and development of players, coaches, and other staff.
- Fosters a positive and supportive environment that promotes player development and well-being.
- Represents the academy in external relations and builds partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Development of links to professional clubs for pathways for talent identification.
- Where necessary recruit, direct and manage the additional assistant coaching staff required for the effective coaching and development of the performance squads.
Strategic Area: Learning and Teaching
- Provide appropriate opportunities for students of a wide variety of abilities to extend themselves to their fullest extent;
- Coach teams within the Dragons and EFA Football Programme;
- Provide a planning framework for the development of engaging seasonal and sessional plans to teach skills and tactics, develop fitness and achieve competitive outcomes;
- Organise trials in an efficient and transparent manner;
- Keep abreast of all current best practice regarding training methods, skill, tactical developments etc. and changes to FIFA rules and regulations;
- Supporting and driving the use of athlete technology to develop players through fast and effective feedback.
- To build our student leadership programme and link with our Service and Sustainable Development Programme in offering and supporting a local service.
- Recommend programmes of professional development for staff associated with the football programmes of the school;
- To deliver training for coaches and football personnel;
- Develop the capacity within the performance programme to achieve the programmes strategic goals.
- Evaluate and monitor progress against the objectives in the strategic plan.
- Liaise with the PE Department to support planning instructional units for PE and in designing the balls skills programme for PS/MS;
- Keep parents fully informed of activities, selections, programmes and events on a long term and short term basis;
- Assist the Activities admin staff to answer parental enquiries that may arise after trials and/or during the season;
- Maintain the East Community Football Programme online profile via social media accounts;
- Participate in whole school meetings where appropriate;
- Support presentations to parents on aspects of the Football programme;
- Ensure exemplary standards of behaviour and personal responsibility;
- Actively work to promote football at UWCSEA East through promotion, assemblies and advertising campaigns.
- A well organised individual with strong administration skills.
- Manage effective coaching for the football programme. This includes development of appropriate annual training programmes, pre-season as well as competitive season programmes and a variety of camps for all ages and abilities.
- Collaborate on ideas for development, assisting in the writing of the relevant instructional units.
- To develop and ensure the smooth running of an internal weekend league programme and tournaments.
- To oversee the annual football budget for all activities and monitor overall progress;
- To make available via a suitable ordering system the provision of appropriate team uniforms and equipment as needed;
- Ensure resources are used effectively and appropriately stored.
Person Specifications
- UEFA Pro coaching licence or similar coaching badges.
- Education/Coaching/Sports Science degree would be an advantage.
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification.
- 5+ years in a middle management role or leading a football team.
- Minimum of 8 years successful coaching experience (with a proven track record) to include a detailed understanding of performance needs of developing footballers.
- Experience in fostering productive relationships with other coaches and being able to encourage creativity and contribution from others.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues both within football and from other departments.
- Demonstrated integrity and is fair, equitable and ethical in approach. Protects confidential information, adheres to policies and demonstrates loyalty to football and the club.
- Understanding and appreciation of the field of talent identification, selection and confirmation and how this can contribute to the development of footballers.
- A high level of personal integrity with a genuine enjoyment of connecting with all members the School community.
