About your team

The ISS Client Propositions group at Fidelity International is the connective tissue between our Investment Management and Distribution teams. Client Propositions brings together the key areas that support client functions, including Investment Directing, Product, and Client Solutions. The vision for Client Propositions is to ensure Fidelity is regarded as a market leader and partner in investment products, solutions and services. We will build innovative propositions that deliver optimal commercial outcomes, by connecting client needs globally with the full range of Fidelity’s investment capabilities.

Day-to-day, the Investment Directing teams are well integrated within their respective areas of focus, sitting in close proximity to the investment management teams accountable for delivering on clients’ needs across Fidelity’s suite of investment portfolios. The Fixed Income Investment Directing team supports the development and growth of Fidelity’s Fixed Income business, with the aim of commercialising our fixed income investment solutions and the company’s investment capabilities. The team is responsible for representing the fixed income group to prospective and existing clients, reporting on portfolios, promoting thought leadership, creating new investment capabilities to meet investors’ demands, and generating marketing material to support sales activity. The team encompasses a strong knowledge of bond markets, a deep and continuously developing knowledge of portfolio strategies, ability to communicate these in different formats and to support sales teams through direct client relationships where appropriate.

The Fixed Income team at Fidelity International manage in excess of $US 80 billion (as at 31 December 2023) of fixed income portfolios on behalf of institutional, wholesale and retail clients globally. The fixed income team is a globally integrated team, with close collaboration between its European, Asian and Canadian hubs.

About your role

This position will be situated in Fidelity’s Fixed Income Investment Directing team, reporting to the Head of European Fixed Income Investment Directing, based in London. The successful individual will assume primary coverage of Fidelity’s Global and US Fixed Income Investment Grade franchise and capabilities.

Core activities

  • Portfolio Manager (PM) proxy responsible for client facing activities including investment process, strategy updates, product updates, client pitches, client servicing, prospecting, due-diligence, RFPs and product development
  • Prospect acquisition – pitch meetings and new business, opportunity development working with investment management and distribution teams
  • Defence – retaining business in the event of periods of underperformance or key changes
  • Client servicing – regular review meetings and involvement in query management, including complex questions utilising broader network to answer
  • Updating and improving presentations – including critique of existing materials and creative thinking to improve messaging
  • Collaborate on marketing strategy for the franchise and support product development process, as well as proactive engagement with marketing teams on marketing of strategy
  • Understand client needs, feedback client views, provide client voice in internal forums
  • Potential to contribute beyond immediate capability / responsibilities where applicable

About you

With a solid background in financial markets and our industry, and a grounding in delivering on client needs, you will be able to demonstrate you have the following core skills and competencies:

Commercial acumen

  • A good understanding of a capability’s commercial position
  • Ability to independently develop the sales proposition for a capability or client solution
  • Strong elevator and finals pitch skills
  • A solid understanding of distribution channels and market trends
  • Demonstrates an ability to link client needs to optimal investment solutions
  • A good appreciation of the implications of new business for Fidelity, and the ability to grasp the opportunity cost tied to new business decision-making
  • Ability to identify business at risk and the appropriate remedy for the situation
  • A good understanding of relevant competitor landscape

Influence and judgement

  • Clarity in communicating strategies and deployment of resources
  • Ability to influence across diverse stakeholder sets, including when conflicts arise
  • Ability to strategically manage diverse stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and independent decision making across all elements of the role

Technical and analytical

  • Investment experience in fixed income, with a preference for experience with investment grade strategies
  • Ability to shift focus and display broad understanding of different markets and clients
  • Resource management, ability to influence the deployment of strategies
  • Strong writing & presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
